There are a lot of things to consider when talking about zodiac compatibility. I have written about the importance of descendant signs, solar opposite signs, and planetary twins when considering a romantic partner. I have also written about which signs probably wouldn’t be compatible with each other.
It is known that the ideal zodiac couples have different modalities, meaning that a cardinal sign should be with a fixed or mutable sign, and so on and so forth. It is also common knowledge that fire signs tend to be compatible with other fire signs as well as air signs. And earth signs are compatible with other earth signs and water signs.
But I think I may have judged a few zodiac pairing a bit too harshly. So today, I will be discussing some zodiac couples that could still work even though they don’t follow the rules of compatibility.

Aries and Capricorn
The cardinal ram and the cardinal goat will surely bump heads. They are both leaders, but their leadership styles are very different. Capricorns like to be calm and in control at all times, or else they become anxious and shut down. Aries tend to fly by the seat of their pants.
But…
Under the right circumstances, an Aries and a Capricorn can be the ultimate power couple. This relationship can work if Aries learns to trust the earth sign’s judgment and if Capricorn embraces the fire sign’s lovable chaos. Both of these signs are strong, brave, and fiercely protective of the people they love. So if these two do find themselves in a healthy relationship, rest assured they will fight for each other.
Taurus and Leo
This relationship is not impossible, but it may be a tad bit unlikely. You both have a penchant for luxury and living life to the fullest. However, as earth signs, Taureans are much more thrifty and frugal than the spendthrift fire sign. There are several hurdles that this couple would have to jump over.
But…
I have often called Taureans the homemakers of the zodiac. I have also compared Leo’s to a fire burning in a home’s fireplace. Without a hearth, Leos have no place to burn brightly and safely. And without a fire, a Taurean’s cozy space lacks warmth. I know I’m speaking in a lot of metaphors. But what I’m essentially trying to say is that, in a healthy relationship, Leo will feel safe with Taurus, and Taurus will feel comfortable with Leo.
Gemini and Cancer
Though cardinal and mutable signs can be compatible, air signs and water signs rarely have much in common. Geminis are verbally expressive and tend to say whatever comes to their minds. And while Cancerians are expressive in their own ways, they tend to keep their thoughts to themselves until they feel comfortable around someone. These two may feel like they can’t have a good conversation.
But…
As I previously stated, these two are quite expressive. They are also incredibly creative and knowledgeable. The cardinal water sign will be intrigued by the air sign’s intelligence, and Gemini will be in awe of Cancer’s wisdom. And yes, “intelligence” and “wisdom” are two separate things, ask any Dungeons & Dragons player. These two signs will serve as muses that inspire each other. Gemini will be the wind in Cancer’s sails.
Virgo and Libra
Virgo is definitely a sign that you want in your corner as a friend or confidant. But they may not make the best romantic partner for sociable Libra. They may find each other loyal and charming. But Virgos will want Libra to take life more seriously than they are willing to take it. And Libras will always want the earth signs to loosen up.
But…
It’s perfectly alright to have your head in the clouds as long as your feet are firmly planted in the ground. And that’s why Libras need Virgos. Without the mutable earth sign grounding them, Libras would get carried away. And on the flip side, Libras breathe life into Virgos. Without the air sign, Virgos would get stuck in the mud.
Scorpio and Sagittarius
Water signs and fire signs go together about as well as…well, water and fire. Scorpio and Sagittarius are well-matched in broodiness. However, Sagittarians like to be the life of the party, while Scorpios prefer to have quiet yet emotionally stimulating conversations with their significant others.
But…
As lively fire signs, Sagittarians DO love being the life of the party. But because they tend to be so introspective, they tend to emotionally crash after a night of enjoyment. And that’s why they need a partner like Scorpio. As a broody yet empathetic water sign, Scorpio will be able to tend to Sagittarius’ emotional needs. The mutable fire sign will introduce a sense of fun and adventure into the life of the dark and dramatic scorpion. Since they are both quite broody as previously stated, these two will be able to call each other out on their B.S.
Aquarius and Pisces
Though Pisces are mutable signs, this is probably not the best match for you. The fixed air sign prefers to be mentally and intellectually stimulated rather than emotionally stimulated, and they may not be charmed by Pisces’ emotional intensity.
But…
Aquarians are water-bearers. The Water-bearer is often portrayed as a person holding a large jar of water that is gradually spilling out. Imagine an Aquarius holding a giant jar, but instead of containing water, it holds all of their thoughts and emotions. Now imagine Aquarius struggling not to pour these thoughts and feelings onto anyone else because they are afraid of how others would react.
Aquarians are not aloof or emotionless; they are just worried that no one will understand how they feel. Enter empathic Pisces, who will happily help Aquarians carry their metaphorical jar of thoughts and feelings. But this relationship is not one-sided. Pisces’ intelligence is often underrated by those around them. But intellectual Aquarius will recognize and validate their knowledge and wisdom.
Ophiuchus and Bigfoot
