Your home should reflect your style and what you like. You don’t have to stick to what you see on the shelves at the big box stores. Bring your own personal touch to your home this fall by crafting fall decorations that reflect your personality. These three ideas will help you get started.
Leaf Candle Holder
I love this craft because it requires that you spend time in nature. Either on your own, with your kids, or with your friends or family, go outside and start collecting leaves that you find beautiful. Make sure you collect plenty because they might break during the next step.
Find a glass jar (or several, depending on how many candle holders you want to decorate), or look through the jars you already have. Put a candle inside the jar first. Then, attach the leaves to the jar. You can tie twine around the leaves to secure them, or you can try using rubber cement glue or another adhesive. I also love the idea of wrapping twine around the top part of the jar for that added farmhouse fall touch. Voila! You’ve made your own special leaf candle holder.
Pumpkin Vase
There’s two different approaches you can take to this craft: either go all-natural or stick with a pre-made pumpkin. If you go the first route, follow the same process that you would if you were carving a pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern. Remove the pumpkin seeds and sticky bits, then clean it out as best as you can. Next, fill it with whatever flowers you like best – I recommend sunflowers and dried cattails. This takes some extra effort, but that makes it extra personal!
If you’d rather make your own pumpkin vase from a cardboard or plastic pumpkin, choose one that’s already hollow or that’s easy to cut. Then arrange the flowers inside any way you like. Decorate the outside of the pumpkin if you like!
Fall “Bucket” List
This is my favorite craft on this list because it not only gives you something to decorate, but it also gives you a bucket of fall-themed activities to do. Find a small bucket or a jar and decorate it any way you like. You can use fall-themed stickers, twine, ribbon, or even leftover leaves from the candle project. Attach them to the outside of the bucket in the way that looks best to you. For an extra touch of flair, attach a little tag or sign that says “fall bucket list.”
Come up with a list of fall-themed activities that you want to do. Here are my suggestions:
- Haunted House
- Pumpkin Patch
- Jump in a leaf pile
- Bonfire with s’mores
- Corn Maze
- Apple Cider
- Hayride
Count how many ideas you have and then count out that many jumbo-sized popsicle sticks or craft sticks. Then, color the sticks in a variety of fall colors. If you’re feeling extra creative, decorate them with patterns – but make sure that you can still write over the pattern and it will be easily readable! After you’ve decorated the sticks, write one idea on each stick and then place them in the bucket. You’ve created a fall “bucket” list!
Fall Into Creativity
There’s so many more crafts you can do to help decorate your space for fall. You can create your own acorn pinecone wreath using a base from a craft store and what you find beneath a tree. Or, you can make your own “give thanks” corkboard (use a square corkboard and create your own acorn top out of brown construction paper) where you can tack up cute squares listing what you’re thankful for.
No matter what you choose, make sure it’s a craft that you’ll enjoy doing and that you’ll enjoy looking at in your home!
