From cleansers to serums to lotions, here are a few skincare products you need to use this fall if you have dry skin.

There are many reasons to look forward to the fall and winter months, but dry skin is not one of them.

In fact, there are very few things worse than dealing with dry, flaky, tight skin once the temperature drops below 50 degrees. It’s uncomfortable, it causes serious irritation, and it can be difficult to fix.

And, while it may feel like the only solution is to splurge on the most expensive moisturizer available, the truth is there are plenty of drugstore products that’ll help you out.

From cleansers to serums to lotions, here are a few skincare products you need to use this fall if you have dry skin.

A Hydrating Cleanser Is a Must

First thing’s first — you have to make sure you’re using a hydrating cleanser. La Roche-Posay’s Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser is a great option for those who may have more sensitive skin and are looking to improve signs of redness.

Another solid drugstore choice is CeraVe’s Hydrating Cleanser, which is less than $12. This cleanser is specifically for people who have normal-to-dry skin, as it doesn’t strip the skin of its natural moisture. It also cleanses without leaving the skin feeling tight, which is an absolute must during the winter.

Remove Makeup With Micellar Water

Stop stripping your skin of its natural oils with makeup remover wipes and please start using micellar water instead. Not only is micellar water gentle on the skin, but it also does a great job of removing heavy makeup.

The Bioderma Sensibio H2O Make-up Removing Micellar Solution, which is available for less $15, cleanses the skin but doesn’t dry it out. Likewise, the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water ($9) is the best option for sensitive skin.

Moisturize Twice a Day

While you don’t need an expensive moisturizer to help you with your dry skin, you do need to make sure to use a moisturizer twice a day. The CeraVe Moisturizing Cream is a fantastic drugstore option that contains three essential ceramides that restore the skin’s natural barrier. But, while it’s incredibly hydrating, it won’t leave your skin feeling greasy or oily.

However, if you happen to have very dry skin, you should try Eucerin Dry Skin Replenishing Face Cream. This product is designed for those who have anywhere from “dry” to “very dry” skin, as it works to immediately relieve tightness, redness, and even scaliness.

Lather on Serums

Along with moisturizers, serums will also help you out this fall and winter. A hyaluronic acid serum is probably the number one product you should buy (besides a moisturizer, of course) if you’re looking to keep your skin hydrated.

The Ordinary has a great hyaluronic acid (for just under $7) that’ll help maintain your glow. Investing in a vitamin C serum is also a smart idea, as it’ll work to brighten your skin, and a serum with squalane will keep your face incredibly hydrated.

Lotion Is Your Friend

Along with all these products listed above, please make sure to consistently use body lotion. I know it’s a pain to have to put it on, especially after a shower, but it’ll keep your skin from getting severely irritated.

Get into the habit of using lotion every morning and night, and don’t be afraid to lather it on throughout the day if need be.
