There are so many skincare products out there, it can be hard to keep up. It feels like every day there’s a new product on the market that’s supposed to make our skin glow, eliminate wrinkles altogether, or help us look like we’re 21 again.
But, while we all know the importance of putting on moisturizer twice a day or washing our face at night, there are a handful of products that are actually pretty useless. Though the skincare industry wants you to think you need to have a 12-step routine, the truth is it’s just not necessary.
In order to help cut down on time and to save you a bit of money, here’s a handful of skincare products that are actually pretty useless.
Face Masks
There are few things better than relaxing on the couch with your favorite drink, a great movie on TV, and a soothing face mask on. But, while wearing a face mask may make you feel like you’re taking care of the skin, the truth is they don’t really do much for you.
In fact, if you have a solid skincare regime, you can forget face masks altogether. However, if they do bring you inner peace and help you find your zen, there’s no harm in putting one on every once in a while. Just know they’re not going to make you look 10 years younger overnight.
Eye Cream
If you’re already using a moisturizer twice a day, you really don’t need to be buying eye cream too. While it may feel like your eye cream is getting rid of your eye bags and dark circles, it’s really doing exactly what your moisturizer does already.
The skin under the eyes is very thin, which is why it’s so important to be gentle when putting on products. However, you don’t need a separate product to do that. Stop paying for what you don’t need and just use your moisturizer under your eyes instead.
Makeup Remover Wipes
Whatever you do, please stop paying for makeup remover wipes. They’re so unnecessary! I know you think you’re making life easier for yourself, but they’re just a big waste of money. Plus, they’re not great for your skin.
Instead of continually buying packages of makeup wipes, purchase a bottle of micellar water, which is a much gentler makeup remover.
Or, if you really want to save money, simply wash your face after you wear makeup. A solid cleanser will remove your makeup just fine and keep your skin clean. But, if you do need something heavy-duty to remove your eye makeup, simply rub a little vaseline on your eyes and it’ll take your mascara right off.
Stretch Mark Cream
Here’s the truth — every single one of us has stretch marks. It doesn’t matter what your body type is or what size dress you wear, stretch marks do not discriminate.
While it’s normal to feel insecure about them, there is no stretch mark cream is going to make them go away. Though certain ingredients in those products make them disappear temporarily, the effects are not long-lasting.
Neck Cream
Much like stretch mark creams, neck creams rarely do anything to eliminate the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles. These specialized creams want you to think they’ll help you have the neck of a 17-year-old, but it’s just not going to happen.
If you’re insecure about the way your neck looks, all you can really do is make sure to apply SPF every day and stay out of the sun.
