For thousands and thousands of years, human beings from various cultures worshiped pantheons of deities. Today we are talking about the Greek goddesses, and I have paired up a goddess with each zodiac sign. Yes, even Ophiuchus. Read on to find out which Goddess you are! Don’t forget to check your moon and rising signs as well as your sun signs.
Aries – Athena, The Goddess Of War
Athena is known as the goddess of wisdom and handicraft but she is most well-known as the goddess of warfare. She is so well-renowned as a warrior goddess that the epic hero Odysseus calls upon her for her guidance as he leaves for war in The Odyssey. So naturally, this passionate and persevering goddess will resonate with the fiery warrior of the zodiac.
Taurus – Demeter, The Goddess of Agriculture and Fertility
Demeter may be the goddess of agriculture, but she is best known for her dedication to her daughter Persephone, who was taken to the underworld by the god Hades. She was so determined to find her missing daughter that she caused crops to wither and a great famine overtook the land. Taureans will admire her dedication, her earthly nature, and her mom-friend energy.
Gemini – Persephone, The Goddess of Spring and Queen of the Underworld
Since Gemini is known as one of the most communicative and poetic signs, you are probably wondering why I did not pair her with Calliope, the muse of poetry. I purposely left muses out of the article to keep things simple. I chose Persephone for the mutable air sign, because she is both the goddess of spring and the queen of the underworld and Geminis will appreciate and admire her duality.
Cancer – Selene, The Goddess and Personification of the Moon
Cancerians are ruled by the moon and are even called moon-children. So naturally, I had to pair them with the goddess of the moon. Not only is she the goddess of the moon, she is the embodiment of the moon, meaning that when greeks worshiped her they were directly worshiping the moon. I also paired her with Cancer because she was said to drive her moon chariot across the skies and the tarot card for Cancer is The Chariot.
Leo – Hera, The Goddess of Marriage and Queen of the Gods
The goddess Hera definitely has that Leo energy. I personally have never met a Leo who was not beautiful and extravagant and Hera is often depicted as a gorgeous, elegant, and luxurious goddess who is adorned with jewelry from head to toe. But her beauty is not the only reason she is paired with the fixed fire sign. The queen goddess is also known for being vain, willful, and jealous of her husband’s lovers.
Side note: Maybe instead of taking her anger out on her husband’s lovers and children, maybe she should have just turned her ire on Zeus himself. Just saying.
Virgo – Artemis, The Goddess of the Hunt
Have you ever wondered how Virgo got their name? Well, the symbol for the mutable earth sign is The Virgin. And Artemis is one of the most well-known virgin goddesses in the Greek pantheon. But that is not the only reason why she is paired with Virgo. As earth signs, Virgos have a reverence and appreciation for nature, and Artemis is the goddess of animals and the hunt.
Libra – Aphrodite, The Goddess of Love and Beauty
Libra is ruled by the planet named after the Roman goddess, Venus. And Aphrodite is often seen as the Greek equivalent of Venus. As the goddess of love, Aphrodite is known for her charm and ability to make arguing couples rekindle their romance, which is a tendency that diplomatic Libra can identify with. But the comparisons do not stop there. Both the love goddess and the air sign are known to be social butterflies.
Scorpio – Hecate, The Goddess of Magic and Witchcraft
Scorpio season begins at the spookiest time of year, so I’m sure the goddess of witchcraft will resonate with the fixed water sign. Just as Scorpios are known for their secrecy and broody nature, Hecate is known to be a dark, mysterious deity. But, just as Scorpios are known for their loyalty, she is also known for her allegiance to the goddesses Demeter and Persephone.
Sagittarius – Metis, The Goddess of Wisdom
It is no coincidence that “sage” and “Sagittarius” begin with the same three letters. Sagittarians are known for their introspection and intelligence. So naturally, I had to pair them with the goddess of wisdom. She was a Titan goddess who acted as a wise counselor to Zeus, the king of gods. She was so wise, in fact, Zeus feared her power and the power that her children would have. Just goes to show, knowledge is power.
Capricorn – Gaia, The Goddess and Personification of the Earth
Capricorn is the cardinal earth sign and the executive of the zodiac. Capricorns are known for their leadership, so I feel like they will feel a great connection to the goddess Gaia. It is believed that the other deities and earth itself came from her. Gaia demonstrated her Capricorn sensibilities when she used Cronus to exert her power over Uranus.
Aquarius – Asteria, The Goddess of the Stars
Contrary to popular belief, Aquarians do not have their heads in the clouds. They are simply reaching for the stars. It is for this reason and many others that I have paired them with the goddess of falling stars. Asteria exudes compassionate Aquarian energy when she helps her pregnant sister, Leto, despite Hera’s order that no one should give aid to her. She also turns into a quail to avoid someone, which is a total Aquarius move.
Pisces – Brizo, The Goddess of Sea and Dreams
Brizo is not as well-known compared to the other goddesses on this list, but she was revered as the patron goddess of sailors, boats, and dreams. So I cannot think of a better goddess to pair with the dreamy water sign Pisces. She was also believed to be a prophetic goddess and some Pisces are known for their psychic abilities.
Ophiuchus- Xandra, The Goddess of…?
Xandra was created for a Disney cartoon, so she is not a real goddess just like Ophiuchus is not a real zodiac sign.
