And today, I’m writing about another iconic 80’s television show, Designing Women. If you don’t remember this delightful show about a group of strong, hilarious Atlanta women running an interior design firm, you can watch all of the seasons on Pluto TV. Fair warning though, some of the episodes have not aged well.

Aries – Colonel Bill Stillfield
Aries is the warrior of the zodiac. So it only makes sense that I pair them with the character who is an actual soldier. The cardinal fire sign is known to be adventurous, and Bill has to travel all over the world for his job. Aries are also known to be incredibly loyal, and Bill is nothing but loyal to Charlene.
Taurus – Mary Jo Shively
I often call Taureans the homemaker of the zodiac. Though Cancerians would probably fight for them the title. So naturally, I had to pair the homemaker with the head designer of the interior design firm Sugarbaker and Associates. Mary Jo is sweet and sassy like the fixed earth sign.
Gemini – Carlene Frazier-Dobber
Geminis are known to be a bit erratic. But they are also known to be sympathetic and sweet-natured. And if that description does not fit Charlene’s little sister, Carlene, to a T, then I don’t know what does. Carlene can be a little scatterbrained, but she greets everyone who walks into Sugarbaker and Associates with a smile.
Cancer – Anthony Bouvier
The cardinal water sign gets to be paired with the fan favorite of the show. Cancerians are one of the most creative signs in the zodiac. And Anthony is so creative that he goes from being a delivery man for Sugarbaker and Associates to a full-time partner. He is also empathetic and compassionate like a Cancerian. In the show, he joins the citizens’ rights coalition and the Big Brother program.
Leo – Suzanne Sugarbaker
Come on, Leo! Are you really surprised that I paired you with Suzanne? I mean, it could be worse. I could’ve paired you with Miss Valdosta Feed and Grain! Like the fixed fire sign, Suzanne is fiery, theatrical, and well aware of how fabulous she is.
Virgo – Allison Sugarbaker
Virgos are no-nonsense and practical. And I feel like that is a perfect description for the staunchly conservative Allison Sugarbaker. I also paired her with the mutable earth sign because mutable signs are adaptable, and Allison is able to adapt to life in Atlanta after moving from New York.
Libra – Reese Watson
Libra is ruled by Venus, the planet named for the Roman goddess of love. So it makes sense that I would pair the cardinal air sign with Julia’s main squeeze, Reese Watson. But that’s not the only reason I paired these two together. Libras are known for their diplomacy, so I had to pair them with the diplomatic lawyer Reese.
Scorpio – Etienne Toussaint Bouvier
Scorpios are one of the sexiest signs in the zodiac. That’s why they get paired with one of the sexiest showgirls in Atlanta! Etienne is the gorgeous wife of Anthony. Like the fixed water sign, she is able to easily charm those around her. Plus, if she is a Scorpio, then that means that she is compatible with Cancerian Anthony.
Sagittarius – Bernice Clifton
Sagittarians are naturally entertaining and love to make their friends and loved ones laugh. I really had no choice but to pair them with the funniest character in the show. But that’s not the only reason for this pairing. Sagittarians are also knowledgeable and philosophical, and as the daughter of a Baptist minister, Bernice knows the Bible better than anyone on the show.
Capricorn – BJ Poteet
Earth signs are materialistic and financially conscious. And as a cardinal earth sign, you could make the argument that Capricorns are the most financially conscious. So of course I had to pair them with the Texas billionaire Bonnie Jean Poteet. She is also charming like a Capricorn.
Aquarius – Julia Sugarbaker
I’m sure everyone was wondering what sign Julia would be paired up with. Aquarius ultimately won that honor. Like the fixed air sign, Julia is a revolutionary who is dedicated to justice. She is known to be as temperamental as she is compassionate. And like all air signs, she is able to express herself verbally.
Also, this means that she and Suzanne are solar opposites. And it also means that she is compatible with Libra Reese.
Pisces – Charlene Frazier Stillfield
Of course, I pair the sweetheart Charlene with sweetheart Pisces. Like the mutable water sign, Charlene tends to be the most naive member of Sugarbaker and Associates. Pisces is also known to be one of the most musically-inclined signs in the zodiac. And Charlene is known to have a deep admiration for Elvis and Dolly Parton.
Ophiuchus – Marjorie Lee Winnick
Marjorie Lee Winnick did not know that Suzanne was not just any Miss Georgia; she was THE Miss Georgia. And she probably doesn’t know that Ophiuchus is not a real zodiac sign.
