Welcome to Tarot Tuesday!
Each Tuesday I pull a card from my grandmother’s tarot deck and write about what the card could mean for the signs, broken up by element. The elements of the zodiac are Fire (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius), and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces).
I may pull a card from the major arcana, representing our inner wisdom. Or I may pull a suit card, representing outside influences. I may even pull a court card signifying a specific person in your life. This card can help you set your intention for the rest of the week or it can provide a visualization of your current situation. Don’t forget to check your moon and rising signs as well as your sun sign.
Queen of Pentacles
This week I pulled a court card, the Queen of Pentacles. A Queen card can represent a feminine person (often a matriarchal and/or authority figure) who must balance home life and work life.
Pentacles are the suit of dependability and material comforts. This suit often symbolizes home, family, and ambitious or occupational pursuits. When a Pentacle card pops up, it usually represents the need for common sense and practicality.
In my grandmother’s deck, the card is often depicted as a feminine figure wearing a red and white gown, a green veil, and a golden crown. She sits on an ornate, silver throne and holds a golden pentacle coin. She is surrounded by flora and fauna.
Though the card’s image may vary from deck to deck, the meaning is often the same. It can represent a person who tends to handle work/life balance in a practical way rather than an emotional way. They tend to overwork themselves. This card may pop up during a time in your life when you are trying to settle into a comfortable routine or an ambitious career. It can also symbolize a need to over-extend one’s self.
What This Card Means for Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
Fire signs are ruled by their passion and drive. The Queen of Pentacles speaks to your need to succeed in all of your professional ambitions, regardless of the personal toll it takes on you.
Aries, you feel like all of your hard work has been underappreciated by the powers-that-be. It may be time to talk to your higher-ups and let them know that you are feeling overworked and undervalued. If they don’t listen, it may be time to move on.
Leo, you have been taking care of your personal needs for a while now. Keep at it. This self-care will give you the mental rest and the emotional fortitude you need to tackle all of your goals.
Sagittarius, you have had trouble admitting when you are wrong lately, particularly when you have been challenged. This may have led you to lash out at people who are close to you. Take a personal day to clear your mind before trying to make amends.
What This Card Means for Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
Earth signs are ruled by their dedication and desire. This card may hold more significance for you because the Pentacles are the suit of earth. The Queen of Pentacles speaks to your need to be in complete control of your day-to-day life.
Taurus, being the mom-friend, you may feel compelled to solve all of your loved ones’ problems. No one can blame you for this, especially since all of your friends keep coming to you with their problems. Offer help when you can, but don’t be afraid to set a boundary if people are asking too much of you.
Virgo, you are so good at solving problems in a thoughtful and pragmatic way. But it is okay to listen to your heart as well as your head when finding solutions to the issues you are facing in your everyday life.
Capricorn, you are very wise and usually have a good handle on things. So when something does not go according to plan, you often equate that with personal failure. You are not a failure, Capricorn. Try to focus on all of your good qualities and your past successes.
What This Card Means for Air Signs (Aquarius, Gemini, Libra)
Air signs are ruled by their compassion and independence. The Queen of Pentacles speaks to your need to chase your dreams as well as your need in assisting others to realize their own potential.
Gemini, you have been trying to help someone by guiding, teaching, or tutoring them. Lately, there has been a misunderstanding, possibly on both of your parts. Use your gift of verbal expression to communicate in the way they need you to.
Libra, you have once again found yourself in the role of the peacekeeper. You have been trying to help someone despite the toll it is taking on you and the well-meaning concerns of others. It may be time to step away, or at the very least, request assistance for yourself.
Aquarius, you have been helping others a lot lately. This is admirable, but now it is time to ask others for help. You have a good idea that can take you far in life, but you may need the assistance of others to set it in motion.
What This Card Means for Water Signs (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio)
Water signs are ruled by their empathy and imagination. The Queen of Pentacles speaks to your need to make everyone around you happy.
Cancer, the advice I have for you is the antithesis of the advice I gave Virgo. Think with your head as well as your heart. You tend to solve problems emotionally rather than rationally, and that has led you to be overly concerned with what others think of you. People don’t hate you, I promise!
Scorpio, you have been dealt an emotional blow recently. The slight against you was not personal and it was no one’s intention to hurt you. But it still hurts. Take some time and allow yourself to feel these emotions. After you have taken your time to feel your feelings, think about this situation pragmatically. Could this unfortunate happenstance benefit you in the long run?
Pisces, in your quest to ensure other people’s happiness, you have completely lost your own. Your feelings may have been hurt by a person or a group of people whom you really care about. It is time to set boundaries with those people. Go where you are celebrated.
