Welcome to Tarot Tuesday!
Each Tuesday I will be pulling a card from my grandmother’s tarot deck and writing about what the card could mean for the signs, broken up by element. The elements of the zodiac are Fire (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius), and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces).
I may pull a card from the major arcana, representing our inner wisdom. Or I may pull a suit card, representing outside influences. I may even pull a court card signifying a specific person in your life. This card can help you set your intention for the rest of the week or it can provide a visualization of your current situation. Don’t forget to check your moon and rising signs as well as your sun sign.
The Nine of Wands
This week I pulled the Nine of Wands. This is the card of courage and victory. In tarot, the number nine represents independence, self-confidence, and achievements. It can also dissuade the querent from accepting anything less than the best for themselves.
Wands are the suit of creativity and independence. A wand card represents a need to pursue your own artistic desires and joy. It could also represent travel, success, and a gathering of friends. When a wand card pops up in a reading, it symbolizes personal achievement.
In my grandmother’s deck, the card is depicted as a masculine figure wearing a white and orange tunic with green leggings and boots. He leans on one large wand while eight more stand erect behind him. He has a bandage wrapped around his head.
Though the card’s image may vary from deck to deck, the meaning is often the same. It represents some level of success after an apparent setback or failure. This card tells you to keep going and that all of your efforts will prove worthwhile. It can also represent physical, mental, or emotional health after a prolonged illness.

What This Card Means for Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
Fire signs are ruled by their passion and drive. This card may hold more significance for you because the Wands are the suit of fire. The Nine of Wands card speaks to your resilience.
Aries, have you been channeling Virgo or Capricorn? Because you have become quite the workhorse. You have been working tirelessly, but that hard work is paying off, and people are starting to notice you. Be proud of yourself but don’t burn yourself out.
Leo, you have recently freed yourself from a toxic work situation. You have either distanced yourself from an unethical employer or you have set boundaries with an irritating colleague. Revel in this freedom because liberation will put you on the path to success.
Sagittarius, you feel like you have been putting in all the effort without getting much in return. You have earned yourself a plethora of professional successes, but you feel less successful in your personal life. It is time to tell your loved ones exactly what you need from them. They won’t know what you need until you tell them.
What This Card Means for Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
Earth signs are ruled by their dedication and desire. The Nine of Wands card speaks to your devotion to your personal and professional life.
Taurus, your relationship is finally where you want it to be. You have been striving to build a solid foundation through compromise and communication, and you feel like you and your partner or partners have achieved a peaceful balance.
Virgo, your sense of stability has been shaken up due to a major life change. You struggled a lot in the beginning but you are finally beginning to get a handle on the situation. You may still struggle from time to time but you get stronger each day.
Capricorn, you have achieved so much in your personal and professional life. It was not easy, and you should be proud of yourself. But don’t forget to thank the people who helped you along the way.
What This Card Means for Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)
Air signs are ruled by their compassion and independence. The Nine of Wands card speaks to your self-reliant nature.
Gemini, after years of pining for your dream job, you have finally made those dreams a reality. You may be getting ready to showcase a project that you worked exceptionally hard on! Be unapologetically proud of yourself.
Libra, like Taurus, you have been working on your relationship. However, you have fallen into the bad habit of trying to fix every problem yourself. You are not the only person in your relationship; let your partner or partners help you.
Aquarius, even someone as intelligent and as intellectually stimulating as you can become mentally and emotionally exhausted. You may have started to withdraw from people for the sake of your well-being. But don’t be afraid to reach out to your trusted loved ones. Your true friends won’t demand too much of you.
What This Card Means for Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
Water signs are ruled by their empathy and imagination. The Nine of Wands speaks to your need for a creative or emotional outlet.
Cancer, you have been feeling some pretty intense emotions lately, and you may feel like your moods and thoughts are all over the place. Talking to a professional may help improve your mental health.
Scorpio, you may have experienced a creative setback, but you are working hard to rectify the situation. Emotional maturity and professionalism will set you on the right path.
Pisces, you are close to completing a creative project that you may have been working on for years. Maybe it’s the first draft, or maybe it is not completely perfect. But you can work out the problems later. For now, congratulate yourself on a job well done.
