Tarot Tuesday: The High Priestess

Woman reading tarot
Read on to find out what The High Priestess has in store for you!

Welcome to Tarot Tuesday!

Each Tuesday I will be pulling a card from my grandmother’s tarot deck and writing about what the card could mean for the signs, broken up by element. The elements of the zodiac are Fire (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius), and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces).

I may pull a card from the major arcana, representing our inner wisdom. Or I may pull a suit card, representing outside influences. I may even pull a court card signifying a specific person in your life. This card can help you set your intention for the rest of the week or it can provide a visualization of your current situation. Don’t forget to check your moon and rising signs as well as your sun sign.

Also, I want to mention that this week’s card was not the first card I pulled. I pulled The Lovers card first before pulling this week’s card. If you want to check out that card, you can do so here.

The High Priestess

This week I pulled The High Priestess card. This card belongs to the Major Arcana and it is believed that Major cards hold deeper and more specific meaning. This card wants us to be like Fleetwood Mac and “go our own way.” This card is also associated with the moon and the zodiac sign Cancer. You can learn more about that here.

In my grandmother’s deck, the High Priestess is depicted as a feminine figure dressed in blue and white robes. She wears an ornate silver crown and a silver cross around her neck. She sits between two pillars, one black with a “B” engraved upon it, and one gray with a “J” engraved on it. On the wall behind her, there is a tapestry of ornate pomegranates. She holds a silver scroll in her hand and a crescent moon sits at her feet.

Though the card’s image varies from deck to deck, the meaning is often the same. The High Priestess card represents the need to go our own way and do our own thing. This card asks the question “what do you really want out of life?” When this card pops up in a reading, it usually means that it is time to reconnect with our inner child and our personal dreams. It can also mean that there is something that we need to heal from.

What This Card Means For Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)

Fire signs are ruled by their passion and drive. The High Priestess speaks to your desire to pursue a path that ignites your passion.

Aries, this card really wants you to STOP DRAGGING YOUR FEET! You know what you need to do. It’s time to start living the life that you want.

Leo, you may be living the life that you want outwardly. But this card wants you to focus on what your inner child needs from you. Focus more on personal happiness rather than success.

Sagittarius, this card wants you to reawaken your mind and reignite the spark within you. Try taking a class in something you have never tried before or traveling to a place you have never been.

What This Card Means For Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)

Earth signs are ruled by their dedication and desire. The High Priestess speaks to your need to follow your own wants and aspirations.

Taurus, you are such a mom-friend but this card wants you to be a mom-friend to yourself. It’s time to follow your own dreams.

Virgo, you are always eager to assist others in whatever they need. This card wants you to start considering what makes you happy.

Capricorn, you are always so responsible. This card wants you to let loose and live the fun life that you have always wanted to live.

What This Card Means For Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)

Air signs are ruled by their compassion and independence. The High Priestess speaks of your need to take care of your own well-being.

Gemini, this card wants you to spread your wings and fly. It’s time to escape your humdrum routine and change it up a little.

Libra, this card wants you to remove yourself from the middle of toxic situations. Remember the old mantra “not my circus, not my monkeys.”

Aquarius, you have a great deal of compassion for others. But this card wants you to show that same compassion for yourself.

What This Card Means For Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)

Water signs are ruled by their empathy and imagination. The High Priestess speaks to your need to heal yourself.

Cancer, your sign is particularly connected to this card, so it may hold more significance for you. This card wants you to reflect on how your decisions are affecting your wishes and desires.

Scorpio, if you are feeling particularly broody right now, this card wants you to look within yourself and examine what is causing you pain.

Pisces, this card wants you to reexamine your childhood dreams and pay attention to visions you receive from your nightly dreams.

Tune in next week for another Tuesday Tarot Pull. And in honor of The High Priestess, let’s enjoy a song about going your own way.
