We all have our preconceived notions about certain zodiac signs. I mean, I write articles based on some of these notions. Some of the conceptions are so deeply ingrained in us that we end up treating people a certain way. I have had people physically and deliberately walk away from me when they learn that I’m an Aries. (We are nice, I promise!) Are these beliefs warranted? There must be a kernel of truth to them, right?
Well, let’s discuss it.
Today, we are going to talk about stereotypes most commonly attributed to Sagittarians. Are they reckless risk-takers who do not care about their own safety? Or are they ambitious visionaries whose restlessness is the product of a hyperactive mind?
Sagittarius: The Dark Horse Of The Zodiac
Try to envision a Sagittarius in your mind. It’s difficult, isn’t it? You have had Sagittarian friends before, but it is hard to pinpoint specific traits. Some are as broody as Scorpio. Others are as entertaining as Leo. And some are as reckless as Aries. Why is that? That is because Sagittarians are mutable signs.
It is easy — and most common — to categorize astrological signs by their element (Fire, Earth, Air, and Water). However, we can also categorize the signs by their qualities. Astrological qualities are listed as cardinal, fixed, and mutable. Cardinal signs are characterized as leaders. Fixed signs are known for their stability. And mutable signs are able to adapt to change. But what does this mean for Sagittarius?
Sagittarians are able to adapt to their community and surroundings easier than the other fire signs. In fact, they adjust to change so well that at times they crave it. This need for change can be so strong that it can lead to risky behavior. Since they often engage in risky behavior without considering the outcome, they can suffer pretty serious consequences. But the openness to change allows Sagittarians to see the world not as it is, but how it could be. They love to learn and expand their horizons.
They have wonderful plans, and though it may be hard for them to initially set those plans in motion, once they put their minds to something they are unstoppable. I often refer to Sagittarians as “the dark horse,” because though their ideas may seem out there, their ambition can allow them to accomplish anything. They are fire signs, but they are not bonfires nor are they hearths. They are matchsticks because they are so full of potential.
Let us explore and learn a little more about the enigmatic mutable fire sign.
Sagittarius at Work
Because Sagittarians are incredibly adaptable, they can be very easy to work with. In a perfect world, the workplace runs like a well-oiled machine. But in the real world things can go wrong at any second. It is at times like these when you want a Sagittarius on your team. Their charitable and resilient nature makes them the ideal coworker. They are always eager to help and are able to keep their cool in stressful situations. Sagittarians have a tremendous work ethic and like to face challenges head on.
An immature Sagittarius will often take on more work tasks than they can handle. Sure, they may enjoy a challenge, but there is only so much that one person can do. When Sagittarians overextend themselves, they can experience burnout and leave tasks unfinished. They also have the tendency to fight the powers-that-be when they feel like they are not being utilized to their fullest potential.
But a mature Sagittarius knows when to say “no” to avoid burnout. Their tendency to take risks can greatly benefit them when they share their ideas and do not hide their ambition. If they feel like their work ethic is being taken advantage of, they will leave to go where they are celebrated.
Sagittarius in Love
Sagittarians are fire signs so they naturally ooze charm. They attract others easily with their charisma and tender heart. They are happy to go on adventures and are quick with a humorous gesture whenever their partners are feeling down in the dumps. Their ambition and altruism allow their significant others to feel safe and secure with them.
An emotionally unevolved Sagittarius can let their temper and recklessness get the best of them. While others may fear change, Sagittarians fear stasis. They can often mistake relationship stability for stagnation, which makes them restless. This restlessness can cause them to lash out at their partner or partake in self-destructive behaviors.
An emotionally evolved Sagittarius is self-reflective. They crave change and adventure, sure, but they see a romantic relationship as an adventure that they can share with the one they love. Though they may still feel restless or angry at times, they look within themselves to find the root of these darker emotions, rather than lashing out.
Sagittarius and Friendship
Sagittarians bring the party with them wherever they go. People are drawn to their vibrant personalities. They are very entertaining and always able to cut the tension with a well-timed joke. They are always ready to hype you up. If you are nervous ready for a date or a job interview, you want a Sagittarius is in your corner cheering you on and reminding you of your best qualities.
A juvenile Sagittarius can be a bit combative when you disagree with them because of their “my way or the highway” mentality. They want to be there for their friends and though they always intend to keep their obligations, they can’t always make good on their promises because they have promised too many things to too many people. This causes them to feel like a disappointment, and they become moody and introspective.
A more sagacious Sagittarius forgives themselves for not being able to be everything to everyone around them. They know that they have to keep promises to themselves in order to make good on their promises to others. Though they have a tendency to make snap judgments about people, they are willing to learn more about them before completely writing them off. This willingness to learn about the world around them strengthens their activist spirit, and this spirit can embolden others to join their causes.
Sagittarians are not always easy to read, but once you are able to get them to open up to you, they will show you a captivating side to themselves. They are a mutable matchstick shrouded in mystery, and for that, I will always be grateful for the Sagittarians in my life.
