We all have our preconceived notions about certain zodiac signs. I mean, I write articles based on some of these notions. Some of the conceptions are so deeply ingrained in us that we end up treating people a certain way. I have had people physically and deliberately walk away from me when they learn that I’m an Aries. (We are nice, I promise!)
Are these beliefs warranted? There must be a kernel of truth to them, right? Well, let’s discuss it.
Today, we are going to talk about stereotypes most commonly attributed to Scorpios. Are they arrogant rogues who overindulge in their dark desires? Or are they loyal lovers who value friendship and freedom over everything else?
We are right at the beginning of Scorpio season, so let us dive a little deeper and see what makes these sexy scorpions tick. And if your sun, moon, or rising sign is in Scorpio, then this is the article for you! If you do not know your birth chart, you can check it here.
Scorpio: The Paramour of the Zodiac
You are at a club having a great time with some friends. You dance a little and have a few drinks. Then, from across the room, you see a person who could only be described as a Byronic hero/heroine. They seem dark and broody at first but after a few minutes, you see them tearing it up on the dance floor to a Peaches song. (And don’t act like you don’t know which Peaches song I am referring to… It was a bit too raunchy to put on the Scorpio playlist.) That person is probably a Scorpio.
When you picture a Scorpio in your mind, you may see a goth icon who is secretive, sensual, and sassy. They have a reputation for being the most carnal sign in the zodiac, but not in the “free-love” or “hippie” sense of the word. They equate their passions with freedom and they will explore anything that they feel gives them a sense of independence.
Scorpios are ruled by Pluto, the planet of transformation, destruction, and rebirth, so they are masters at reinventing themselves. But their ancient ruler is Mars, the planet of drive and passion, and this scorpion is nothing if nothing passionate.
Scorpios are water signs, but they are not peaceful trickles, nor are they the seven seas. They are raging rivers that do not merely go with the flow. They are the flow.
Scorpio at Work
Scorpios are generally wonderful students, classmates, and coworkers. They pick up lessons and tasks relatively quickly and they are always good to have on your team when working on a project. However, their strong work ethic can be attributed to their need to show off and be the best. This attitude does not necessarily have to be maligned as a bad thing though.
An immature Scorpio may just want all the glory for themselves. Rather than rivers, they would prefer to be an oasis in the desert. (Scorpions do like deserts after all.) They want to be seen as the one exemplary person in the environment.
But a mature Scorpio wants to share their success with their team. They know that they can’t take on the river rapids without a team to help them steer the raft.
Scorpio in Love
With all of Scorpio’s amorous tendencies, you would think that they are ruled by Venus. But their ancient ruler, Mars, is the perceived lover of Venus, so I guess that’s something.
Scorpios are known to be the most flirtatious and sensuous sign. And though I agree with that stereotype to a point, their passion goes much deeper than just seeking out frivolous flirtationships. They are a water sign, so they care deeply about their partner’s feelings and desires. And as fixed signs, they want their partners to feel safe with them.
An emotionally unevolved Scorpio will often retaliate in vindictive ways if they feel ignored or mistreated by their significant others. They are always ready to strike with their proverbial scorpion’s tail.
An emotionally evolved Scorpio never wants their partner to feel neglected and they do not want them to feel tied down. But they themselves do not want to be neglected or constricted either. Scorpios believe that the greatest gift you can give your partner is the freedom to be their complete authentic selves. If a Scorpio can’t be their authentic selves with you, they will find a situation where they can.
Scorpio and Friendship
Every day is an adventure when you have a loyal Scorpio by your side. A Scorpio can turn a simple shopping trip or movie night into an epic crusade. Like I said earlier, Scorpios are rivers. If you go along with their flow they can take you on incredible journeys. But sometimes the rushing water can be a little too icy and hazardous.
Like a lot of water signs, Scorpio has a tendency to self-isolate. They may go months and months without reaching out to certain friends. And due to their mysterious natures, it may be difficult to get them to open up. However, once the ice has melted and their passion is reinvigorated, the friendship will pick up exactly where it left off. Though they may require a little patience, Scorpios’ dependability and daring attitude make them ideal friends.
An icy Scorpio can be a bit too bossy due to their ancient ruler, Mars. And because of this, they tend to shut their friends out when they fail to comply. Pluto, the planet of banishment and destruction, increases this tendency.
A warm Scorpio may still set boundaries and need their space after a quarrel, but they will always reach out to their friends after a healthy dose of alone time. After a long meaningful talk, they are always ready for the next adventure.
Scorpios need the freedom to pursue their passions more than they need anything else. They excel when they feel liberated from the chains of expectation. Like a river, they desire to run and flow freely. Their outgoing attitudes coupled with their unswerving loyalty make me grateful for the Scorpios in my life.
