We all have burning questions about life, love, money, family and the universe. And some of us need answers now!
Maybe you have been contemplating finding these answers through a form of divination. But what divination practice is right for you? If you are having trouble finding a practice that works for you, check your zodiac sign below for some ideas. Don’t forget to check your moon and rising as well as your sun sign! You can check your birth chart here.
I will include links in every section that will go into greater detail about each practice.
Remember to cleanse your tools however you see fit.
Aries – Fire Scrying
Scrying is the art of gazing into a medium hoping to see visions or images pertaining to your query.
Aries is a cardinal fire sign, so they may find that a form of divination that utilizes the powerful element speaks to their fiery sensibilities. Please remember to practice caution when performing this ritual, and always keep a fire extinguisher on hand. It is best performed outside.
What you’ll need:
- Time and space without any distractions
- A bonfire, a candle, or a large number of candles
- A pen and notebook to take note of your visions
Taurus – Tasseomancy (Reading Tea Leaves)
Taurus is paired with the art of tasseomancy (or tasseography) because they are a fixed earth sign. Their fixed modality endows them with the need to make others feel safe and cozy. And their earthy nature makes them attracted to the physical earth element. So the cozy practice of gleaning answers from a comforting ingredient that grows in the ground is pretty perfect for them.
What you’ll need:
- A cup of tea (duh!) preferably in a light colored tea cup
- Loose black tea leaves because a tea bag will not work
- A book or chart of tea leaf symbology
Gemini – Automatic Writing
Geminis are known to be one of the most loquacious and poetic signs in the zodiac. They are truly endowed with the gift of the written word. So automatic writing is perfect for them. This is not one of the easiest practices mentioned on this list. But it may come easier to the mutable air sign than it would for other people.
What you’ll need:
- A quiet, comfy spot with no distractions
- A pen or pencil
- A notepad or a sheet of paper
Cancer – Full Moon Water Scrying
It is probably quite obvious why I paired Cancerians with this specific form of divination. One of the reasons I paired this sign with this practice is because Cancerians are ruled by the moon and therefore have a great connection to it. The other reason for this pairing is that Cancer is a cardinal water sign, so any form of divination dealing with water will make them the most comfortable.
What you’ll need:
- A full moon on a clear night
- A dark bowl filled with water positioned on a flat surface
- A pen and notebook to take note of your visions
Leo – Mirror Scrying
There are a couple of reasons why I think Leos would enjoy mirror scrying. First, almost all Leos are attractive, so they will probably enjoy seeing a glimpse of their reflection. The second reason is that the fixed fire sign is quite creative and will probably enjoy crafting the black mirror tool needed for this practice.
What you’ll need:
- A clear glass plate
- Black matte spray paint to coat the plate (you can embellish the mirror any way you want after the black paint has dried)
- A pen and notebook to take note of your visions
Virgo – Numerology
As a whole, Virgos are quite organized, intelligent, and analytical. So they will probably enjoy a practice that will help them calculate their life path using numbers and letters. Every person has a life path number based on their name and birthday, and the mutable earth sign will enjoy figuring theirs out.
What you’ll need:
- A chart to help you calculate your Life Path number
- A pen and notebook to take note of your visions
Libra – Pendulum Divination
Libras often get accused of being wishy-washy because it can be so difficult for them to make decisions. Sometimes they need a clear “yes-or-no” answer. This is one of the reasons why pendulum divination is perfect for them. They will also love this practice because they are cardinal air signs, so they will feel connected to a practice where a tool must swing through the air.
What you’ll need:
- A store-bought or handmade pendulum
- A chart or piece of paper that has a clear “yes” and “no” written on it
- Optional: a pendulum stand and board
Scorpio – Palmistry
Scorpios have the reputation for being one of the most sensual signs in the zodiac. But they are one of the most sensational signs in the zodiac. Or rather, they derive a lot of their energy from physical sensations. Palmistry, along with the simple act of physical touch, can help the fixed water signs glean the answers they need from themselves as well as the people around them.
What you’ll need:
- A willing querent
- Their palm (duh!)
- A chart or book of palm symbology
Sagittarius – Taromancy (Tarot Cards)
If you have read my weekly tarot articles, you know exactly what taromancy is. Sagittarians are ruled by Jupiter, the planet of fortune. So naturally, I had to pair the mutable sign with one of the most famous forms of “fortune-telling” (though not everyone appreciates that phrase.) This practice will speak to the fire sign’s metaphysical proclivities.
What you’ll need:
- A deck of tarot cards that speak to you
- A book on tarot symbology
- A pen and notebook to take note of your visions
Capricorn – Lithomancy
Like the other cardinal signs on this list, I paired the cardinal earth sign with a practice that utilizes their specific element. I have often said that Capricorns are solid as a rock, so they will feel particularly connected to the practice of gleaning answers from rocks and stones.
What you’ll need:
- Thirteen stones, you can check here to see what the stones represent
- A large square cloth
- Paint
Aquarius – Astrology
Aquarians often get compared to space aliens. But they take it as a compliment because they know they are out of this world! Most Aquarians have often felt curious about what all is out there, which may be why they feel such a kinship with the stars and planets. This is one of the many reasons why the ancient art of astrology is perfect for them.
What you’ll need:
- A star chart that describes the significance of planets, houses and signs
- Books! Lots and lots of books on the subject
- Astrology articles written and edited by beautiful and talented writers!
Pisces – Dream Interpretation
It is no big secret that Pisces is the dreamiest sign in the whole zodiac. I’m not saying “dreamy” in the aesthetic sense (even though they are very cute.) I mean “dreamy” in the sense that they are ruled by Neptune, the planet that governs our dreams. The mutable water sign will find it easy to discover answers and visions in their own dreams as well as the dreams of others.
What you’ll need:
- Sleep with vivid dreams
- A book on dream symbology
- A dream journal
Ophiuchus – Fantasy Football
I feel like Fantasy Football is like divination for sports fans. That being said, it’s not a real form of divination and Ophiuchus is NOT a real zodiac sign!
What you’ll need:
- Knowledge of football, I guess
