At the beginning of this year, we discussed our “Big Three,” our sun signs, our moon signs, and our ascendant signs. Last month we talked about our inner planet signs, Mercury, Venus, and Mars. This month we are discussing our outer planet signs. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto (yes, even Pluto) are commonly referred to as the outer planets.
Today, we are going to discuss two planets in our birth charts, Neptune and Pluto. These are our generational planets, meaning many people of the same generation probably share these placements. If you do not know what your Neptune and Pluto placements are, you can calculate them here.
Neptune is named after the Roman god of the sea and freshwater. Though he is not the god of dreams, the planet that is named for him rules over our dreams, intuition, and spirituality. Neptune also governs our delusions.
Pluto is named after the god of wealth, the dead, and the underworld. So in a way, it is quite appropriate that the planet that is named for such an intense deity rules over our creative tendencies and intensity.
You may notice that I am starting this list with Virgo rather than Aries. And that is because there are almost no living people with Neptune placements in Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, or Leo. And there are almost no living people with Pluto placements in Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Aquarius, and Pisces.
Read on to find out how these generational planets affect our dreams and our self-creation.
Virgo Neptune
People with their Neptune placement in Virgo envision a world where everyone is committed to their work and service to others. They can be so selfless in their service to others that their sacrifices go unappreciated. Their dreams are rooted in realism and practicality.
Libra Neptune
People with their Neptune placement in Libra envision a world where everyone can find common ground. They have the tendency to overextend themselves in order to keep the peace. They dream of harmony, balance, and a life where everyone is treated equally and fairly.
Scorpio Neptune
People with their Neptune placement in Scorpio envision a world where everyone recognizes each other on a deeper, perhaps even a darker level. They tend to pry into the personal lives of others because they want to understand them completely. They dream of transforming themselves into an over-idealized version of themselves.
Sagittarius Neptune
People with their Neptune placement in Sagittarius envision a world where people prioritize justice, freedom, and intellectualism. Because their optimism sometimes gets in the way of their practicality, they sometimes have trouble reaching their goals. They dream of physical or metaphysical escape.
Capricorn Neptune
People with their Neptune placement in Capricorn envision a world where people act morally and responsibly. They tend to come off as cynical because their worldview tends to be more realistic than most. Their aspirations are more realistic than fantastical, but their motivation helps them achieve their dreams easier than most.
Aquarius Neptune
People with their Neptune placement in Aquarius envision a world where everyone has the freedom to be exactly who they want to be. They tend to keep an open mind and take part in many humanitarian efforts. They dream of having the ability to express themselves as uniquely as possible.
Pisces Neptune
Pisces’ ruling planet is Neptune, so people with their Neptune placement in Pisces envision a world where people are compassionate to their fellow man. They tend to be artistic and empathetic, but also a little over-idealistic. They dream big and are seldom held down by convention or realism.
Leo Pluto
People with their Pluto placement in Leo have intense emotions and opinions. They tend to shape their entire identity through these feelings and beliefs in an extreme manner and because of this sometimes feel the pressure to be perfect. Their goal should be finding joy through self-expression, art, and love.
Virgo Pluto
People with their Pluto placement in Virgo have an intense work ethic. They tend to overwork themselves because they are seldom satisfied with their own labor. Their goal should be to find pride in their accomplishments rather than room for improvement.
Libra Pluto
People with their Pluto placement in Libra have an intense desire for romance and friendship. They tend to feel the pressure to be a perfect partner and companion at all times. Their goal is to seek internal validation rather than external validation.
Scorpio Pluto
Scorpio’s ruling planet is Pluto, so people with their Pluto placement in Scorpio have an intense need for sexual intimacy. Because of their tenderness, they tend to go to great lengths to get to know someone on a deeper, more personal level. Their goal is to use their immense compassion, practicality, and perception to fight for their community and loved ones.
Sagittarius Pluto
People with their Pluto placement in Sagittarius have intense beliefs and philosophical ideals. However, they tend to question certain beliefs and ideologies. Their goal is to stick to one cause at a time to bring about a positive change in the world.
Capricorn Pluto
People with their Pluto placement in Capricorn have an intense need for responsibility. They have a tendency to put too much pressure on themselves and approach things in a rather cynical manner. Their goal is to indulge in some play and frivolity. All work and no play makes Pluto a dull sign.
Ophiuchus Neptune and Pluto
If you have an Ophiuchus Neptune or Pluto placement, you are part of generation U… don’t exist. Because Ophiuchus is not a real zodiac sign.
