If you’re in need of a self-care day but need a little push to make it happen, let these quotes get you pointed in the right direction.

Self-care is self-love, right? You’ve probably heard that saying a million times, and while it is cheesy, it’s true. Most of us spend so much of our lives running from one thing to the next, never stopping to rest or take a moment for ourselves.

While staying busy has its benefits, it’s equally as important to find time for self-care. Whether that’s going on a walk by yourself, sleeping an extra hour, or saying “no” to social plans, the reality is we all need a break sometimes.

So, if you’re in need of a self-care day but need a little push to make it happen, let these quotes get you pointed in the right direction.

You Only Have the Present

It’s so easy to get caught up in what we need to do in the future and what we wish we would’ve done in the past. While it’s normal to have these feelings, the reality is they do us zero good. We cannot change what has happened to us and we do not know for certain what the future holds.

Rather than spending time worrying about what’s to come, try to stay focused on the present. All you are in control of is the moment you’re currently in.

Self-Care Is a Gift You Can Give Yourself

Society tells us that the harder we work, the better we are. Whether it’s a job, a relationship, or something as mundane as a household project, taking time to rest and relax isn’t always applauded. While many people don’t take time to rest because they feel guilty, others don’t because they believe they’ll be perceived as lazy.

However, both things are absolutely not true. Taking time to rest and relax is important. Not only will you be a better employee, friend, and loved one after you take time for yourself, but you’ll feel better too.

Let Go of What Doesn’t Serve You

Many of us choose to stay in bad jobs and relationships because we are afraid of the unknown. We think we don’t deserve better, so we stay in what is easy and familiar. However, once we learn to appreciate who we are and begin to love ourselves for who we are, we realize life is too short to do anything that isn’t benefiting us.

Take Time for Yourself

It sounds cheesy, but it’s true — the only relationship you are guaranteed to have for your whole life is the one you have with yourself. You are going to be with yourself until the day you die, so it’s pretty important to like who you are inside. Taking time out of your day to be by yourself, even if it’s just for an hour, can drastically improve the way you think about yourself.

Stop Before the Burnout Starts

If you’re exhausted, burnt out, and barely hanging on, you’re doing yourself and the people around you a disservice. It doesn’t matter how much stuff you have to get done, the best thing you can do for yourself and for those around you is to take care of your body.

Pushing yourself to the brink isn’t good. In fact, it should be avoided at all costs. Take inventory of your feelings and emotions. It’s OK to hit pause every once in a while.
