Alright, let’s be honest with ourselves for a second and admit we’ve probably spent a majority of 2020 in sweatpants, baggy t-shirts, and oversized sweatshirts.
Absolutely no judgment here (as I am currently wearing sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt) if you prefer comfy over cute, but it can also be fun to play with fashion. While we don’t have many places to go thanks to COVID-19, that doesn’t mean you can’t look cute for work or a lunch out with friends.
If you’re looking to add a few new pieces to your wardrobe this fall and don’t know where to start, here are all the fashion trends you need to know about. Happy shopping!
Add Some Fringe
Fringe is back, baby. One of the easiest ways to step up an outfit this fall is to add a piece of clothing or an accessory that has a little bit of fringe.
Whether you’re into fringe jackets (denim, suede, or leather), or prefer to carry a fringe bag, fringe adds a fun texture to any outfit. It also helps to dress up an outfit without being too much or making you feel overdressed.
It’s All About the Nudes
The monochromatic look has been “in” for a while, but this year it’s all about the nudges. Fashion bloggers, celebrities, and everyday people are all rocking the head-to-toe nude look, which is perfect for the fall weather.
And, it’s not just one basic shade of beige that is considered “nude” anymore. This year, people are combining oatmeal, camel, coffee, and ivory shades to every outfit. Rock an ivory sweater dress with a camel coat or coffee-colored boots with jeans and an oatmeal jacket.
Heavy Metal
If neons are the colors of the spring and summer, metallics are certainly the colors of the fall and winter. Spice up any outfit with an edgy metallic piece, whether you prefer a sequined dress, a metallic skirt, or even a metallic face mask!
Dressed Up Athleisure
Because we’re all spending so much time in our sweatpants and sweatshirts, it only makes sense we make them fashionable too, right?
The “dressed up” athleisure look is very in these days, with A-listers such as Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, and Kim Kardashian wearing joggers out to lunch with friends or bike shorts to the club.
In order to achieve this look make sure to combine athleisure pieces with fashion pieces and always add fun accessories.
Prep School Chic
It’s time to pull out the argyle and plaid from the back of your closet because it’s back in style! While this look really took the world by storm in the ‘90s (thanks to Cher from Clueless) it has found its way back into mainstream society.
From knit sweaters to skirts to pants, the prep school look is very in right now and is especially being worn by Gen Zers.
Shearling Coats
If you’re looking for a cute but comfortable way to stay cozy this winter, consider buying a shearling coat. Shearling looks great both as a full-length coat and also as a little detail on a suede jacket. Not to mention, it keeps you warm and cozy without being bulky.
