Oops! She did it again. Britney Spears has a new ‘do!
On Wednesday, the pop superstar debuted a layered shoulder-length haircut on her Instagram. You can’t miss it; in signature Britney style, she posted three different selfies.
Britney Spears Debuts New Cropped Hairstyle
The hair transformation comes amid her legal battle with dad Jamie over her estate. It looks like she’s ready for a change.
“Cut my hair ??♀ !!!! You know what they say …. out with the old …. in with the new !!!!! Now let us pray ???✨,” she captioned the first photo featuring her new cropped blonde locks.
“I love it ❤️❤️❤️❤️,” boyfriend Sam Asghari commented.
Britney’s fans were also quick to comment, gushing over how much they loved the haircut.
“THIS IS SO CHIC WOWW,” one person wrote, while another commented, “Love it!!! You look gorgeous ?.”
“Ok, I’m obsessed with this haircut,” another said. “You look absolutely beautiful! ❤️.”
She was obviously feeling her new ‘do, as she showed it off in a total of three sunny selfies.
The cut itself features face-framing pieces and curtain bangs. Paging Rachel Green! It has that very mid- to late-nineties feel to it, and I’m here for it.
Chrissy Teigen’s New ‘Rachel’ Hairstyle
Britney isn’t the only celeb channeling Friends star Jennifer Aniston for hair inspiration, either. This is also “The One Where Chrissy Teigen Gets a Haircut.”
Chrissy also debuted a new ‘do on Instagram this week, and it also looks like the Rachel.
The 35-year-old star posted an Insta video on Monday showing off blonde highlights and feathered, face-framing layers. Her cut doesn’t have the same curtain bangs as Britney’s, but it’s still relatively similar in style.
Chrissy didn’t reference Rachel Green or Jennifer Aniston in her post, but fans were quick to notice the similarity.
“Are you bringing back the Rachel?” one person commented.
“The Rachel is timeless. You look fab,” another fan wrote.
Selena Gomez’s Version of the ‘Rachel’
Okay, one more. Apparently, Selena Gomez also channeled Jennifer Aniston’s iconic cut, too.
Back in March, Selena appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show showing off a layered chop. Her hairstylist, Marissa Marino, confirmed that the Rachel really was the inspiration behind the ‘do, along with a little inspo pulled from Goldie Hawn’s character in The First Wives Club.
“Selena on @kellyclarksonshow today! It’s a great interview so be sure to watch! ✨ hair inspo was “The Rachel” meets Goldie Hawn in First Wives Club ?,” she captioned a video on Instagram.
Clearly, the ‘Rachel’ is Back
Clearly, this iconic haircut is coming back in style full force.
Back in 1995, Jennifer Aniston’s Friends character, Rachel Green, debuted the hairstyle. It was the creation of stylist Chris McMillan, and had roots as a shag cut. Of course, it was layered and highlighted to TV perfection.
McMillan didn’t do it to grab headlines — the haircut was just to give Rachel a new, different look. However, the show’s breakout star hit more than 25 million viewers each week. The Rachel became a phenomenon.
The haircut was all the rage for years, even after Jennifer Aniston herself opted for longer locks. Average salon-goers were still rocking the cut well into the 2000s.
Of course, these new Rachel-esque cuts are updated from that original mid-90s hairstyle. They’re easier to maintain — Jennifer herself hated the cut in the ‘90s, noting that it was impossible for her to style on her own.
If you’re hoping to revive The Rachel like Britney, Chrissy, and Selena, be upfront about your hair texture and your normal, daily hair routine. This way, you won’t get stuck with a cut that doesn’t work with your personal hair.
