When you think of fall decor there’s a good chance you think of cobwebs, spiders hanging from the ceiling, pumpkins, and the colors orange and black. While fall is so much more than Halloween, it’s easy to get the two confused.
How are you supposed to decorate for the fall season without incorporating Halloween decorations, right? Well, as it turns out, it can be done.
In fact, there are simple and easy ways to decorate your home for fall that don’t involve spooky creatures or turning your living room into a haunted house.
If you’re wanting to turn your home into a cozy oasis this fall but don’t want to look like the inside of a Halloween store, here are some decorating tips to help you on your way:
Colors Go A Long Way
You don’t need to have pillows that say “Fall Is Here” for your home to feel like it’s decorated for autumn. In fact, simply incorporating fall colors will give your space autumnal vibes.
Burgundy, burnt orange, sage, mustard, and camel are all great colors to bring into your home. You can simply change out pillows, add a throw blanket, bring in candles, or change out your coffee table nick-nacks.
Simple changes can go a long way, so don’t feel like you need to do anything drastic.
Don’t Cover Every Space
Just because it’s fall doesn’t mean you have to cover every inch of your home with a decoration. In fact, if you’re really wanting your home to feel tasteful and not overdone, restraint is key. Pick a few pieces you really love and find a place for them in your home, but don’t go overboard.
Subtle Fall Touches
While you may not want your home to look like a Halloween store, there’s no shame in wanting to incorporate a few Halloween-specific touches. The good news is can be done in a very subtle way.
For example, grab this ceramic pumpkin from Target that’s just $5. It’ll look great on a mantle, coffee table, or side table, but it won’t overwhelm your space.
Another idea is to change out your coffee table books for “Halloween” books, such as The Shining, Frankenstein, or Coraline.
Cozy Is Key
Along with decorative pieces, fall is all about feeling cozy and warm. People want to spend time in a room that’s inviting and homey, so it’s always a good idea to add more blankets, throw pillows, velvets, and even faux furs to your space.
Candles also go a long way and help a room to feel cozier, so don’t be afraid to add more (especially if they’re fall-scented).
Do What Feels Right
While it’s easy to take other people’s advice, the truth is you should decorate your home how you want to. If you want to add pumpkins and gords to your front step, do it.
Do you want skeletons hanging from your windows? Put them up! But, if you hate pumpkins and would rather move than hang skeletons in your windows, that’s fine too.
Take what feels right for you and your home and go to town. Fall is a special season, so you should feel good about the space you create.
