Do you want to start playing sports? Here are some great ones you can pick up no matter how old you are.

Do you find yourself dreading going to the gym? Does running on a treadmill sound like the last thing you want to do? If so, it may be time to switch up your workout routine.

Though it may feel like it now, exercise doesn’t have to be boring. In fact, it can be a lot of fun once you find something you actually enjoy doing. And, while it may feel like playing sports is only something kids and professional athletes can do, the truth is you can pick up a sport no matter how old you are.

Whether you’re 25 and semi-athletic or 55 and have never attempted a sport in your life, here are a number of fun sports that are perfect to pick up later in life. Who knows, you may find your new passion!

Tennis

You probably won’t end up playing like Serena Williams or Roger Federer if you pick up tennis later in life, but you can get very good if you start now. While tennis may be a little tough to get initially, it’s definitely a sport that’s for all levels.

Not to mention, people are able to play tennis well into old age, so you won’t have to worry about your body not holding up. It’s also great exercise and will make you sweat. Grab a friend, take some lessons, and have fun!

Swimming

If you’re looking to find an exercise that burns a lot of calories and isn’t hard on your body, look no further than swimming. Sure, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but it really is a tough workout for all ages.

Whether you’re looking to join a master’s group or you just want to hit the pool by yourself, swimming is also a great way to destress. People often do it because it is meditative and requires you to be in your own thoughts for a period of time.

Pickleball

Do you like the idea of tennis but want to play something a little more lowkey? Try pickleball instead! It’s grown in popularity over the years, it’s much easier on your body than tennis, and it’s great for socializing.

Gather up a group of friends and start your own pickleball group! You’ll get exercise, you’ll learn something new, and you’ll have fun.

Golf

Everyone always jokes about retired people picking up golf, but there’s a reason why it’s so popular. Not only is golf fairly simple to pick up, but it’s a sport you can play forever!

Plus, who doesn’t love the idea of spending an afternoon outside on a beautiful golf course? It’s also a great sport for couples to pick up, as it’s something you can do together.

Biking

Biking is a great option for those who like to exercise outside but want to be a little gentler on their body. Like a lot of these other sports, you can go as hard or as easy as you want when you’re on a bike, so it’s great for people at all levels.

And, there are plenty of bike races throughout the country that will give you an opportunity to race and push yourself.
