We are starting to enter the dog days of summer. The weather is hot and all we want to do is chill out and enjoy the season. And what better way to chill out than to watch a cool summer flick?
Read on to find out what movie will get you through these dog days! Don’t forget to check your moon and rising as well as your sun sign.
Aries – Sandlot
Written and directed by David Mickey Evans. Co-written by Robert Gunter.
The cardinal fire signs are blessed with an overabundance of energy. So I am sure they have spent many a summer day playing in the park with their friends and having plenty of adventures. Aries can watch this movie when they want to relive those happy summer days.
Taurus – Eat Pray Love
Written and directed by Ryan Murphy. Co-written by Jennifer Salt.
Taureans will love absolutely everything about this film about a woman on a journey towards self-discovery. Since the fixed earth sign is ruled by Venus, the planet of love and luxury, they love to indulge in the finer things in life. Which is why this film about delicious food and invigorating love affairs is the perfect movie for them.
Gemini – The Parent Trap
Written and directed by Nancy Meyers. Co-written by David Swift and Charles Shyer.
Yep, I paired the Twins with this movie about twins. The dualistic air sign will easily relate to the main characters Annie and Hallie, who lead two very different lives. And guess what? If you love the Lindsay Lohan film, you will absolutely adore the original starring Hayley Mills.
Cancer – The Way Way Back
Written and directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash.
Of course a water sign gets paired with a charming movie about a water park. But that is not the only reason I paired this film with the empathetic Cancerians. The film’s main character Duncan has the sensitive soul of the compassionate cardinal sign.
Leo – Dirty Dancing
Written by Eleanor Bergstein. Directed by Emile Ardolino.
Leos are known to be fantastic performers. I certainly would not be surprised if the late great Patrick Swayze’s character Johnny was a Leo or had Leo somewhere in his chart. So the fixed fire sign will enjoy teaching his young protégée how to tear it up on the dance floor.
Virgo – Wet Hot American Summer
Written and directed by David Wain. Co-written by Michael Showalter.
Virgos are the workhorse of the zodiac, so they will have so much fun watching this hilarious workplace farce about camp counselors living it up on the last day at camp. The pragmatic earth sign needs to watch a fun movie this summer.
Libra – Grease
Written by Bronte Woodard. Directed by Randal Kleiser.
Libras love to keep the peace and often try to make everyone around them happy. Does that sound like a certain musical 1950s couple we know? The cardinal air sign will appreciate how far Danny and Sandy go to make each other happy. But can we all agree that Sandy changed more for Danny than the other way around?
Scorpio – Midsommar
Written and directed by Ari Aster.
Scorpio season begins right at the beginning of the Halloween celebration, so naturally, I had to pair the broody and mysterious water sign with the only horror movie on the list. As a spooky sign they will appreciate the dark elements of the movie. But as a water sign, they will appreciate the emotional writing.
Content warning: this film is extremely gory and upsetting in parts.
Sagittarius – 500 Days Of Summer
Written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. Directed by Marc Webb.
Sagittarians are known to be quite broody and introspective. So it will be quite easy to relate to the film’s main character Tom as he racks his brain trying to figure out how his relationship with the titular character failed.
Capricorn – Booksmart
Written by Emily Halpern, Sarah Haskins, Susanna Fogel, and Katie Silberman. Directed by Olivia Wilde.
Capricorns often get saddled with the stereotype of being staunch and no-nonsense. Though this stereotype is somewhat true, they still like to let loose and party. This is why they will relate to the main character’s struggle between wanting to excel in her education and wanting to have a real high school teenage party experience.
Aquarius – The Iron Giant
Written and directed by Brad Bird. Co-written by Tim McCanlies.
Aquarians will be able to relate not only to Hogarth, but also to the titular character. Hogarth is considerate like the fixed air sign. But sometimes they feel like an outsider, or perhaps even an alien, like the Iron Giant. Aquarians will love this compassionate tale of friendship.
Pisces – Now and Then
Written by I. Marlene King. Directed by Lesli Linka Glatter.
Pisces are known for their empathy, their musical proclivities, and their quirky creativity. But they are also known for their well-developed sense of nostalgia. So I paired them up with a film that is all about childhood nostalgia. The mutable water sign will be touched by the charming dialogue and moving story of growth and camaraderie .
Ophiuchus – A Christmas Story
Written and directed by Bob Clark. Co-written by Jean Shepherd and Leigh Brown.
Obviously, A Christmas Story is not a summer movie. And Ophiuchus is not a real zodiac sign.
