Welcome, lovers, to Tarot Tuesday!
Each Tuesday I will be pulling a card from my grandmother’s tarot deck and writing about what the card could mean for the signs, broken up by element. The elements of the zodiac are Fire (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius), and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces).
I may pull a card from the major arcana, representing our inner wisdom. Or I may pull a suit card, representing outside influences. I may even pull a court card signifying a specific person in your life. This card can help you set your intention for the rest of the week or it can provide a visualization of your current situation. Don’t forget to check your moon and rising signs as well as your sun sign.
The Lovers Card
This week I pulled the Lovers card. This card belongs to the Major Arcana and it is believed that Major cards hold deeper and more specific meaning. This is the card of choice and that choice is usually related to a romantic matter, but not always. In some decks, the card is depicted as a nude feminine and a nude masculine figure standing on either side of an angel. The two figures may be Adam and Eve because an apple tree, a serpent, and a tree with fiery limbs stand behind them. The angel wears a gray robe and has red wings. The sun shines brightly above the trio. Some could argue that this card serves as a foil to The Devil card.
Though the card’s image may vary from deck to deck, the meaning is often the same. This card is the literal manifestation of the phrase “listen to your heart.” When this card pops up, it usually means that when presented with a hard choice you should go with the choice that makes you the happiest. The Lovers card may not want you to play it safe, but you should still proceed with caution. A choice that makes you happy at the moment may not make you happy in the long term.
What This Card Means for Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
Fire signs are ruled by their passion and drive. The Lovers card speaks to your desire to follow your passions at any cost.
Aries, you have been suppressing your passion and creative drive for too long. This card wants you to harness your creative power so that you may live the life that you have always wanted to.
Leo, a fire sign that shines as brightly as you should never lose its spark. This card does not want you to second guess yourself. Don’t let your insecurities snuff out your flame.
Sagittarius, you have been living the life that you think you are supposed to be living, but it may have made you restless. This card wants you to sow your wild oats. Give in to your desire to travel or entertain.
What This Card Means for Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
Earth signs are ruled by their dedication and desire. The Lovers card speaks to your tendency to follow your head rather than your heart.
Taurus, you have been doing everything that you are supposed to do. But is that making you happy? You have spent many years making responsible choices, now this card wants you to have a little fun.
Virgo, you have been compartmentalizing your feelings but now it is time to let all of those emotions out. Letting yourself feel your emotions will bring you much-needed healing and happiness.
Capricorn, you have been trying to juggle work and leisure lately, and sadly work has been taking up most of your time. This card wants you to take a step back and do something fun with your loved ones.
What This Card Means for Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)
Air signs are ruled by their compassion and independence. The Lovers card speaks to your free spirit.
Gemini, your sign is particularly connected to this card, so it may hold more significance for you. This card wants you to abandon your indecisive ways and finally make the choice that you have been putting off.
Libra, like Gemini, this card wants you to abandon your ambivalence. You have been stagnated for far too long, now it is time to spread your wings like the butterfly you are.
Aquarius, like Sagittarius, you may have been trying to live a “normal” life. But this normal life has left you feeling stifled. This card wants you to pursue a life that will make your weird little heart happy.
What This Card Means for Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
Water signs are ruled by their empathy and imagination. The Lovers card speaks to your need for inner peace and happiness.
Cancer, when presented with a choice between short-term and long-term happiness, you often choose long-term happiness. This is admirable, but this card would understand if you wanted to indulge in some short-term happiness.
Scorpio, your feelings of restlessness may increase as the dog days of summer approach. This card wants you to take your own self-care into account when making important decisions over the next week.
Pisces, this card wants you to indulge your escapist tendencies. As a mutable water sign, you can not allow yourself to become stagnated. Allowing yourself to go with your flow will bring you a sense of peace.
