Welcome to Tarot Tuesday!
Each Tuesday I will be pulling a card from my grandmother’s tarot deck and writing about what the card could mean for the signs, broken up by element. The elements of the zodiac are Fire (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius), and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces).
I may pull a card from the major arcana, representing our inner wisdom. Or I may pull a suit card, representing outside influences. I may even pull a court card signifying a specific person in your life. This card can help you set your intention for the rest of the week or it can provide a visualization of your current situation. Don’t forget to check your moon and rising signs as well as your sun sign.
Knight Of Swords
This week I pulled a court card, The Knight of Swords. A Knight card can represent a specific younger (in age or mentality) masculine figure. Or more abstractly, it can represent a need for independence. This court card can represent freedom and adventure. But it can also represent ego and selfishness.
Swords are the suit of communication. But the suit can also represent logic, focus, and fearfulness. When a sword card pops up in a reading it can represent courage or a disruption of an unfair status-quo. It can also represent fears that are holding us back.
In my grandmother’s deck, the Knight of Swords is depicted as a masculine figure wearing red and blue armor riding a gray horse into battle. He has a fierce expression and holds a sword above his head. The horse’s reins are decorated with red birds and yellow butterflies.
Though the card’s image may vary from deck to deck, the meaning is often the same. The Knight of Swords represents a determined or obsessive person. This person is very knowledgeable and enterprising, but may be a bit too smart for their own good. If this person is emotionally immature, they can take offense as easily as they give it. However, with proper guidance, they can use their intelligence for good.
This card can also represent the desire to fight against institutions that you deem intolerant or unjust.
Read on to find out what this card means for your sign.
What This Card Means for Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
Fire signs are ruled by their passion and drive. The Knight of Swords speaks to your strong will and ambition.
Aries, you may have been feeling particularly motivated to stand your ground lately. You are sick of being pushed around and you are not going to take it anymore. But be careful that you do not end up pushing others around while you are defending yourself.
Leo, being a fire sign, you know when it is time to burn bridges. You recognize that some partnerships and business arrangements are not working for you and it is time to cut ties.
Sagittarius, you have an intense need to fight for what you believe in. But like Aries, you have to be careful in the way you choose to fight. Innocent people may get caught in your crossfire.
What This Card Means for Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
Earth signs are ruled by their dedication and desire. The Knight of Swords speaks to your single-mindedness.
Taurus, you have a clear goal in mind and you are dead set on achieving it. But you should not attempt to accomplish everything on your own. You are only human. Accept guidance from those who want to help you.
Virgo, you have been incredibly focused on your work and duties. This is admirable, but make sure that you are working because you want to and not because you are trying to distract yourself from dealing with heavy emotional distress.
Capricorn, you are diligent in your pursuit of success, but you run the risk of pushing anyone who you see as an obstacle away. Remember that not everyone is your competition or enemy. Some people just want to be your ally.
What This Card Means for Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)
Air signs are ruled by their compassion and independence. This card may hold more significance for you because the Swords are the suit of air. The Knight of Swords speaks to your strong sense of justice and communication skills.
Gemini, in the pursuit of your goals, you may have grown a little emotionally distant from your loved ones. It may be time to reach out to your loved ones. Clear and concise communication will promote peace and understanding.
Libra, you have been finding yourself in the “moderator” role recently. People look to you to settle disputes and arguments. Try to provide guidance and balance where you can. But remember, you cannot fix everything.
Aquarius, You are unwavering in your fight against injustice. So unwavering that you may find it hard to find a common ground with others. If you feel particularly alienated because of your righteous beliefs, try and reach out to more like-minded individuals.
What This Card Means for Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
Water signs are ruled by their empathy and imagination. The Knight of Swords speaks to your wit and wisdom.
Cancer, like Pisces, you are working on creative projects and may not be in a place to hear criticism right now. But if you do hear criticism, that does not mean you have to abandon the project. Maybe you just need to look at your endeavor through different eyes.
Scorpio, your wit and personality are larger than life. Many people will find this charming, but there are some people who may be a little turned off. If you experience the latter, try not to read too much into it. Some personalities just don’t mesh well.
Pisces, You are eager to learn and apply what you learn to your various projects. However, you feel hyper-sensitive and it may be difficult for you to accept constructive criticism at this time. Listen and take what you need from the criticism without taking it to heart.
Tune in next week for another Tarot Tuesday!
