Welcome to Tarot Tuesday!
Each Tuesday I pull a card from my grandmother’s tarot deck and write about what the card could mean for the signs, broken up by element. The elements of the zodiac are Fire (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius), and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces).
I may pull a card from the major arcana, representing our inner wisdom. Or I may pull a suit card, representing outside influences. I may even pull a court card signifying a specific person in your life. This card can help you set your intention for the rest of the week or it can provide a visualization of your current situation. Don’t forget to check your moon and rising signs as well as your sun sign.
The Hanged Man
This week I pulled the Hanged Man card, the card of letting go. This card belongs to the Major Arcana, and it is believed that Major cards hold deeper and more specific meaning. In my grandmother’s deck, the Hanged Man is depicted as a masculine figure wearing a blue shirt and red leggings. His hands are tied behind his back and he hangs upside down by one foot that is tied to a tree branch.
Though the card’s image may vary from deck to deck, the meaning is often the same. This card represents letting go of your fears and freeing yourself from any restrictions that are weighing you down. If this card pops up in a reading, it may be telling you that it is time to leave a toxic relationship or environment. It may also represent the need to quit a bad habit or addiction. This card may also be telling you that you are being too accommodating and that your self-sacrifice is not being appreciated.
What This Card Means for Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)
Fire signs are ruled by their passion and drive. The Hanged Man card speaks to your need for self-preservation.
Aries, things are changing for you and you may feel the need to resist this change for the sake of your own sense of survival. This card wants you to embrace the change. It is now time to free yourself from stagnation and live your best life.
Leo, you have been fighting off selfish urges against your better judgment. It’s wonderful that you want to be selfless but people may target you and try to take advantage of you. You have a warm heart and you care a lot about others, but it’s time to take care of yourself
Sagittarius, your charitability is admirable. You care a lot about the people around you, but there may be some people who do not take your well-being into account as much as you do theirs. It is time to set clear boundaries with these people.
What This Card Means for Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)
Earth signs are ruled by their dedication and desire. The Hanged Man card speaks to your need for stable relationships and environments.
Taurus, you are ruled by Venus, the planet of love. Because of this, your capacity to love others is unmatched. However, your tender heart may be allowing your friends or significant others to take you for granted. Demand the love you deserve.
Virgo, you are invaluable to those around you, especially your employers and your co-workers. But your indispensability may leave you feeling overworked and underappreciated. You deserve a healthy work/life balance.
Capricorn, you often feel like you have to be the stable one in your relationships and in the workplace. But now it is time to voice your emotional needs. Let go of the control you have over your emotions and let someone take care of you for a while.
What This Card Means for Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)
Air signs are ruled by their compassion and independence. The Hanged Man card speaks to your need for freedom from toxic situations.
Gemini, you may be in a situation where your voice feels stifled. If you are in a situation where you feel like you can not voice your concerns, you must leave that situation. Do not stay where you are merely tolerated. Go where you are listened to and celebrated.
Libra, you have once again fallen into the trap where you are trying to make everyone around you happy. But you cannot achieve peace and balance in your life when you do not make the effort to take care of yourself. Make yourself happy first.
Aquarius, your compassion allows you to see the good in everyone. But not everyone deserves that compassion. If someone close to you keeps taking your time, energy, and money, it is time to either set a boundary with them or cut ties with them altogether.
What This Card Means for Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)
Water signs are ruled by their empathy and imagination. The Hanged Man card speaks to your tendency to over-indulge in toxic behaviors.
Cancer, while some get a rush from certain behaviors or substances, you have a tendency to get addicted to people and relationships. This card wants you to pull back a bit and evaluate your current partnership.
Scorpio, you have been indulging in thrill-seeking behaviors. This can be fun sometimes. But this card wants you to be mindful. You can seek adventure without putting yourself in danger.
Pisces, this card is tied with your ruling planet Neptune, so it may hold more significance for you. You may be indulging in a habit that in the past has brought you great comfort, but now is debilitating for you. Seek out help to break this habit.
