Read on to find out what the Five of Cups has in store for you!

Welcome to Tarot Tuesday!

Each Tuesday I will be pulling a card from my grandmother’s tarot deck and writing about what the card could mean for the signs, broken up by element. The elements of the zodiac are Fire (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius), and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces).

I may pull a card from the major arcana, representing our inner wisdom. Or I may pull a suit card, representing outside influences. I may even pull a court card signifying a specific person in your life. This card can help you set your intention for the rest of the week or it can provide a visualization of your current situation. Don’t forget to check your moon and rising signs as well as your sun sign. You can check your birth chart here!

And just to mention a funny little happenstance, I pulled a card that I have already pulled and written about. I’m writing about the second card I pulled today, but if you wish to read about the Four of Swords card, you can follow this link!

The Five of Cups

This week I pulled the Five of Cups, the cardinal of hard relationship decisions. In tarot, the number five represents swift and positive words and actions.

Cups are the suit of romance and emotion. This suit can represent all stages of love, whether it be new, unrequited, or long-standing. When a cup card comes up in a reading it can mean that we must make a decision based on emotion rather than logic. This suit reminds us that it is okay to listen to our hearts rather than our heads sometimes.

In my grandmother’s deck, the card is usually depicted as a figure draped in a long black cloak. You cannot see the figure’s arms or face. The figure is surrounded by five golden cups, but only two of the cups are standing upright. The other three are knocked over with their contents spilled on the ground. In the background, a stream separates the figure from a castle-like structure.

Though the card’s image may vary from deck to deck, the meaning is often the same. This card represents a relationship that may be on the rocks. If a relationship is in trouble, this card wants you to examine what it will take to fix it or if it is even worth fixing.

This card can also represent struggles that are the result of an affair, an open relationship, or a polyamorous partnership. This card wants you to ask yourself if having more than one partner is adding stress to your life.

What This Card Means For Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)

Fire signs are ruled by their passion and drive. The Five of Cups speaks to their need for an adventurous relationship where they can be their true selves.

Aries, this card wants you to be in a relationship where you can express yourself to the fullest extent. Go where you are celebrated.

Leo, like Aries, you want a relationship where you can be your authentic self. You may want to be single for a while until you can find a relationship like that.

Sagittarius, if your relationship is starting to seem dull, you may want to go on a spontaneous trip with your partner. If you are single, a romantic vacation fling may be exactly what you need.

What This Card Means For Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)

Earth signs are ruled by their dedication and desire. The Five of Cups speaks to your desire to heal yourself within or after a rocky relationship.

Taurus, if you are feeling confused or heartbroken by the state of your relationship, you may need to reach out to friends or family for support.

Virgo, if a relationship has left you feeling lost or emotionally damaged, this card wants you to reach out to a mental health professional.

Capricorn, if your relationship is causing you nothing but heartache, this card wants you to leave for the sake of your own happiness.

What This Card Means For Air Signs (Aquarius, Gemini, Libra)

Air signs are ruled by their compassion and independence. The Five of Cups speaks to your need to strengthen the relationships with everyone around you.

Aquarius, if you and your partner are hitting a rough patch, this card wants you to stick it out and see if you both can make things work.

Gemini, if there has been a breakdown in communication with your crush or significant other, this card wants you both to be more open to sharing your thoughts.

Libra, this card wants you to strengthen the bond between you and your partner. But it also wants you to strengthen your ties to the community.

What This Card Means For Water Signs (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio)

Water signs are ruled by their empathy and imagination. The Five of Cups speaks to your need for more quality time with your partner.

Pisces, if you are working yourself too hard at your job, your health and your relationship may suffer. Take the day off and spend it with the one you love.

Cancer, if money has caused a strain on your relationship, then it may be time to see an accountant to try and make things easier on you.

Scorpio, your or your partner’s need for success may leave either of you feeling isolated from each other. This card wants you to emotionally support each other.

Tune in next week for another Tuesday Tarot Pull! I wonder if those five cups have pina coladas in them. If so, then we have the perfect song for this card!
