Happy Pride Month! Let’s celebrate this awesome and uplifting month with some wholesome media that showcases queer joy over queer pain! Read on to find out what shows or films you should watch based on your sign. Don’t forget to check your moon and rising as well as your sun sign!
Also, I’ve mentioned some of these movies on other lists. But these films are so nice they deserve to be mentioned twice.
Aries – D.E.B.S.
Aries love a good “enemies-to-lovers” story, so naturally, they will love D.E.B.S. Amy Bradshaw is a member of D.E.B.S (Discipline, Energy, Beauty, and Strength) a paramilitary academy that trains its students to be spies and crime fighters. But she ends up falling for internationally renowned super criminal Lucy Diamond. This movie is full of humor, action, redemption, and romance and Aries will absolutely love it.
Taurus – Fried Green Tomatoes
I already mentioned this film on the wholesome movie list, but this film has everything that Taureans will love. Family, friends, food, and romance. The film tells the story of a woman who learns to love and empower herself by listening to stories about the amazing lives of two remarkable women named Idgie and Ruth. Also, Idgie and Ruth are a couple. This is not up for debate or speculation. There are contextual clues in the book that they are in a relationship.
Gemini – Love, Simon
This film was paired with Cancer on my Rom-Com list, but this is a new day and this is a new list. High school can be hard, especially when you are a young closeted teen who wants to find love. This movie tells the story of a boy named Simon (obviously) who is trying to find the mysterious young man who he has been chatting with online. The sympathetic and verbally expressive Geminis will not be able to resist a story with modernized love letters.
Cancer – To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar
Surely, you didn’t think that I was going to get through this whole article without mentioning this iconic cult classic. This film about three drag queens getting stranded in a rural town but quickly finding a lovely chosen family amongst its denizens will speak to the creative and compassionate water sign.
Just a quick warning, there are some lines in the movie that did not age well. Proceed with caution.
Leo – The Birdcage
I also mentioned this one on the wholesome movie list, but Leos are still schmecken for schnecken! The fixed fire sign will adore this film based on the musical La Cage aux Folles. This film tells the story of a young man trying to impress his fiancée’s stuffy, conservative family by hiding the fact that he was raised by two dads. But thankfully, he learns that a loving family is nothing to be ashamed of. Leos will enjoy Nathan Lane’s bombastic and theatrical character and they will also love the warm-hearted message of the film.
Virgo – But I’m A Cheerleader
Like the main character in this movie, Megan, Virgos often feel the need to be perfect every minute of every day. The mutable earth sign will appreciate Megan’s transformation from the timid closeted girl-next-door to the out and proud lesbian who finds love and runs away from a prissy, pastel conversion camp.
Libra – Good Omens
Did you know that Earth is a Libra? You would if you watched this hilarious apocalyptic show. Yes, I know it’s weird that Earth is an air sign. Just go with it. This show, based on the fantastic book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, tells the story of an angel and a demon who develop a sweet relationship over the centuries and then team up to stop the impending apocalypse. The main theme of balance between “good” and “evil” will speak to Libra’s harmonious heart.
But why is the show on this list? Because the angel and demon have become the internet’s gay dads!
Scorpio – Tangerine
This film is quite a wild ride. It tells the story of a transgender sex worker named Sin-Dee Rella who, after getting out of jail, seeks revenge on her cheating boyfriend. Tangerine will speak to Scorpio’s vengeful nature. But it will also speak to their sweeter, sentimental, and loyal sides as well. Also, this film cast transgender people to play transgender characters, and the whole thing was filmed on iPhone 5s.
Sagittarius – Our Flag Means Death
I have already talked about this phenomenal show in the past, but it deserves another mention. Sagittarians will love this fun and wacky show about a gentleman who gives in to his wanderlust and sets sail on a pirate ship with his rag-tag crew. This show’s wholesome portrayal of queer romance will brighten anyone’s day.
Capricorn – Single All The Way
Capricorn season heralds the Christmas season, so I had to pair them with this sentimental Christmas comedy. This movie tells the story of a man who brings his best friend to his family’s Christmas celebration as a means to dodge their overbearing yet well-intentioned meddling. The cardinal earth sign will appreciate the charming dialogue and the practical yet supportive characters.
Aquarius – The Happiest Season
Another wintry movie for another wintry sign! Aquarians often feel like outsiders, so they will identify and sympathize with the main character’s plight of having to pretend to be her girlfriend’s straight roommate in front of her seemingly perfect family. They will also appreciate the clever and dry-witted dialogue.
Pisces – Pose
Pose tells the story of New York City’s drag ball culture and the dancers and models who make up the different networks of chosen families known as Houses. Musically-inclined Pisces will appreciate the vibrant dance scenes in the show. But they will appreciate the raw emotion of every actor’s performance even more. The sensitive water sign will also love watching a show that tries to emphasize queer joy over pain.
Ophiuchus – I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
I will give this movie the benefit of the doubt and say that the filmmaker’s heart was in the right place. However, the queer representation in this movie is pretty abysmal. It’s not a real LGBTQIA+ movie and Ophiuchus is not a real sign.
