Christmas is just days away! So we compiled a zodiac Christmas playlist for you to listen to as you wrap those last minute gifts and bake those gingerbread cookies. Check your sun sign to see what song best fits with your personality. Be sure to check your moon and rising sign.
Aries- Christmas Wrapping
Written and by Chris Butler. Performed by The Waitresses.
Aries has garnered a reputation for being grumpy and easily-irritated. While that can be true sometimes, underneath that hard exterior beats the heart of a romantic. With lyrics like “Bah humbug, no that’s too strong ‘cause it is my favorite holiday,” this fun song about reconnecting with an old flame during Christmas, perfectly encapsulates Aries’ temperamental yet optimistic nature.
Taurus- This Christmas
Written and performed by Donny Hathaway. Co-written by Nadine Theresa McKinnor.
Hang all the mistletoe, because Taurus wants to get to know you better. This edifying earth sign enjoys their earthly and epicurean delights. Taurus is ruled by Venus, so they will appreciate this subtly seductive song. The lyrics are sweet and full of traditional holiday cheer. But the music is sensual and will put Taurus in the mood for some cozy caressing by the fireplace.
Gemini- Grown Up Christmas List
Written and performed by Amy Grant. Co-written by David Foster and Linda Thompson-Jenner
Geminis are idealists who express themselves best through the power of the written word. So I imagine this song resonates with them more so than the other signs. It can be hard to hold onto your Christmas cheer around this time of year. And this song, written from the point of view of an adult’s Christmas letter to Santa, will speak to the mutable air sign’s hope for a better world.
Cancer- Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)
Written by Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. Performed by Darlene Love.
Cancers are sentimental but they don’t put too much emotional stock in gifts or material items. Their sentimentality is attached to their community and their loved ones. Christmas decorations and presents do not fill the tender-hearted moon child with the holiday spirit. This song speaks to them because the only thing that will make them shine like pretty lights on a tree is being with the person who they love the most.
Leo- All I Want For Christmas Is You
Written and performed by Mariah Carey. Co-written by Walter Afanasieff
Let’s be real here. I assigned this song to Leo because they are the biggest divas in the entire zodiac, and Mariah Carey is the biggest Christmas diva ever! Just picture a Leo dressed to the nines in a faux fur coat, belting this song at the company Christmas karaoke party, and living their best life as they hit those vocal runs. All they want for Christmas is the spotlight! Also, if you are more into alternative music, My Chemical Romance does a great cover of this song.
Virgo- Twelve Days Of Christmas
Traditional with additions by Frederic Austin.
Virgos are known for their love of logic and order. That is why Twelve Days of Christmas is the perfect song for them. The imagery of people dancing and playing music while four birds, um, call each other, gets them in a festive mood. While the meticulous arrangement of the song gives them a sense of peace during this chaotic time of year. Also, they love seeing drunk people sing this song at the same office Christmas karaoke party that Leo is attending
Libra- Baby It’s Cold Outside
Written by Frank Loesser. Performed originally by Ricardo Montalbán and Esther Williams.
Like Taurus, Libra is ruled by Venus, so naturally they need to be paired with a love song. This song has attained a certain level of fame (and infamy) for it’s charming duet and coquettish lyrics. “Baby It’s Cold Outside” is perfect for the sweet yet indecisive ambivert, Libra. Also, it is worth mentioning that even though this song is a fun duet to sing at Leo’s office Christmas karaoke party, it hasn’t aged incredibly well. But you can read about its wholesome history here.
Scorpio- Santa Baby
Written by Joan Javits and Philip Springer. Performed originally by Eartha Kitt.
This is an…interesting song, to say the least. I mean, Eartha Kitt, Madonna, and Michael Bublé have iconic renditions of this song. And it is super fun to sing. But it is hard to hear the sultry tone of the lyrics and not think that the singer is trying to seduce Santa Claus. And let’s be honest, if any sign was going to seduce Santa, you know it would be the passionate and sensual Scorpio. But let’s not talk about seducing Santa anymore.
Sagittarius- Do They Know It’s Christmas ?
Written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure. Performed by Band-Aid
This song’s deceptively upbeat tune coupled with it’s sobering lyrics make it the perfect Christmas song for the altruistic and ambitious Sagittarius. “Do They Know It’s Christmas Time?” will have their feet dancing at the Christmas party while their minds are thinking up ways they could help their fellow man. However, they may leave the Christmas party early to research charities after hearing the song.
Capricorn- Silver Bells
Written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans. Performed by Bing Crosby and Carol Richards.
Capricorns are renowned for their ability to earn money, save money, and when the occasion calls for it, to spend money. Though they can be quite frugal with their spending, they love spoiling their loved ones with gifts at this time of year. This song speaks to the cardinal earth sign’s delight in rushing home with the treasures they found for their family and friends.
Aquarius- Rudolph The Rednosed Reindeer
Written by Johnny Marks. Performed by Gene Autry.
Aquarius is often seen as a misfit but they wear that title like a badge of honor. They do not like to conform with the norm and they are proud to stand out in a crowd. Does that sound like a certain reindeer we know? “Rudolph The Rednosed Reindeer” will speak not only to Aquarius’ nonconformity, but also to their compassion and bravery.
Pisces- Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Written by Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane. Performed by Judy Garland.
Sweet nostalgic Pisces often pines for the kind of holidays they had when they were children. They love the Christmas season and try to recapture the magic of their childhood every year even though it can be difficult for them. When they hear this song, it may make them cry, but it will also give them hope that next year all of their troubles will be out of sight.
Ophiucus- Nothing For Christmas
Written by Sid Tepper and Roy C. Bennet. Performed by Shirley Temple.
Ophiucus is getting nothing for Christmas because they are not a real sign and therefore cannot receive Christmas presents nor will they be invited to Leo’s office Christmas karaoke party!
