The Mighty Mitochondria: In Defense of Virgo

Are Virgos stuffy perfectionists? Or are they loyal and kind-hearted pragmatists?

We all have our preconceived notions about certain zodiac signs. I mean, I write articles based on some of these notions. Some of the conceptions are so deeply ingrained in us that we end up treating people a certain way. I have had people physically and deliberately walk away from me when they learn that I’m an Aries. (We are nice, I promise!) Are these beliefs warranted? There must be a kernel of truth to them right? Well, let’s discuss it.

Today, we are going to talk about stereotypes most commonly attributed to Virgos. Are they stuffy perfectionists? Or do they just want to push us to be our best?

Virgo season just started! So let’s celebrate by diving a little bit deeper into what makes these loyal pragmatists tick. And if your sun, moon, or rising sign is in Virgo, then this is the article for you! If you do not know your birth chart, you can check it here.

Virgo: The Powerhouse Of The Zodiac

Remember in highschool, when your science teacher told you that the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell? Of course you do! There are a million internet memes reminding you. Much like the mitochondria, Virgos are the powerhouse of the zodiac.

When you envision a Virgo, you may see a no-nonsense and high-minded individual who is incredibly organized and perhaps a bit fussy. They catch on quickly when it comes to learning new things that interest them. But they rarely have patience for things that they deem a waste of time.

Virgos are ruled by Mercury, the planet that governs our communication and technological prowess. And anyone that knows a Virgo, knows they always try to keep the lines of communication open to avoid misunderstandings. And on the subject of technological prowess, their minds can be quite analytical like a computer. They are also mutable signs, meaning they are able to easily adapt to the needs of others. Ever notice that Mercury only rules over mutable signs?

They are unwavering in their desire to help others. The earth sign is delighted when someone asks them for advice or their opinion on the matter. But they are incredibly unlikely to change their opinions once they have their minds made up. In many ways, Virgos are like tall mulberry trees. They are strong and always ready to provide us with respite, nourishment and assistance from their long, sturdy branches. It may be difficult to uproot them from their position. But let’s dig a little deeper to get to the root of this mutable earth sign.

Virgo At Work

Virgos excel in occupations that set clear rules and objectives. Their diligence may intimidate co-workers at first. But once they reveal their kind nature, you will be thankful that they are on your team. Virgos do well in management positions, not because they want to boss people around, but because they truly want to help and guide others.

An immature Virgo may be able adapt to the needs of their employer, due to their mutable nature. But they become a bit too anxious when their personal work space and environment changes too much. They also tend to be a bit too critical of their colleagues.

A mature Virgo is always happy to take the time to explain certain tasks to their team, and they are eager to make those tasks as fun as possible. Because they are a mutable sign, they are able to work in an ever-changing environment.

Virgo In Love

Virgos are exceptionally good at compartmentalizing their feelings. This can make them seem like they run “hot and cold” in terms of romance. They have a pragmatic approach to love and are very good at keeping their emotions in check. They are always the ones to have their feet firmly on the ground if their partner has their heads in the clouds.

An emotionally unevolved Virgo is often seen as pushy. They can easily become frustrated with their partner if they feel that important things are not being taken seriously. Their criticism can come off as a little too harsh.

An emotionally evolved Virgo does tend to push their partners. But they gently push them so that they can realize their full potential. However, no matter how frustrated or annoyed they get, they are incredibly dependable and kind-hearted. They will always make sure that their partner is healthy and looked after, and they appreciate it when the favor is returned.

Virgo and Friendship

Virgo is not necessarily a “mom-friend.” They are more like an “older sibling friend.” They will take care of you and offer you advice like a “mom-friend,” but they don’t sugar-coat when delivering hard truths. They are almost always ready and willing to take care of their loved ones when they are in need. But they will never offer a debilitating amount of help. They will encourage you to help yourself. Their loyalty knows no bounds. They are always ready with food, aid, or just a kind word.

A vicious Virgo believes in tough love. But they emphasize the “tough” rather than the “love.” They have a “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” mentality, which is not always helpful. They also find it hard to apologize.

A virtuous Virgo is quite sympathetic and has a heart as big as their workload. They may not necessarily be quick to apologize if they are wrong. Not with words, anyway. They may be ruled by the planet of communication, but they know that verbal communication is not the only way of making their feelings and intentions clear. They believe that gestures speak louder than words and will perform acts of service to make up for any wrongdoing.

While it may be true that Virgos are stuffy perfectionists, their loyalty and dependability make them wonderful allies to have in your corner. Like a beautiful mulberry tree, they will shelter you, nourish you, and extend a branch in times of need.
