We are right smack dab in the middle of Pisces season! So why don’t we celebrate them with a collection of creative and colorful stories?
I have created a list of books that will speak to the mutable sign’s creativity, sensitivity, and empathetic nature. Some books on this list are written by authors who have Pisces somewhere in their big three. And yes, there is going to be a lot of poetry and magical realism on this list.
People who have their sun, moon, and rising signs in Pisces will love these stories. You can check your birth chart here!
The Lady of Shalott
Written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Ok, so I’m kind of cheating with this entry because it’s not technically a book but rather a stand-alone poem. There are many reasons why Pisces will appreciate this one. They will love the watery energy and the artistic protagonist. And the message that it is better to live your life even if it’s only for a short time than to stay cursed and trapped in a tower will resonate with them.
Watering The Soul
Written by Courtney Peppernell
More poetry for the poetic Pisces! This book is described as a “step-by-step recipe to heal your soul,” so it’s a perfect read for the mutable sign. Pisces rules the 12 House, which is not only known as the house of the subconscious but also the house of healing. So not only will Pisces appreciate the elementally appropriate title, but also the book’s emphasis on inner healing.
Handbook for Hot Witches
Written by Dame Darcy
Astrologers believe that anybody who has Pisces in a prominent place in their birth chart harbors certain psychic abilities. So we shouldn’t be surprised that people with Piscean placements are a tad bit witchy. So they will enjoy this witch’s handbook written by the lovely and talented artist Dame Darcy. They will especially love the feminist fairy tales sprinkled throughout the book.
Practical Magic
Written by Alice Hoffman
Alice Hoffman is the first Pisces author on the list! Lovers of the 1998 film Practical Magic may not realize that it is actually based on a novel. Though the film deviates a bit from the novel, they both have a plethora of differences, both mediums share romance, magical themes, and sisterly sentimentality that Pisces will absolutely adore. And once you are done reading this book you can read the whole series!
Alice Hoffman is a fantastic writer who tends to prioritize prose over dialogue. If you are looking for a story with a similar vibe but with a bit more dialogue then you’ll love the next book.
Lost Lake
Written by Sarah Addison Allen
I cannot sing the praises of Sarah Addison Allen enough! Her stories are like anti-depressants in book form! That was just a cheeky joke. You should always take your meds. Lost Lake is the heartwarming story of a single mom finding love and purpose again after visiting her relative in a lakeside camping resort in South Georgia. The story’s magical realism will entice Pisces as they get emotionally attached to the compelling characters.
Lullaby
Written by Chuck Palahniuk
Another Pisces writer! You may be familiar with the film adaptations of Chuck Palahniuk’s novels Fight Club and Choke. He is famous for his cerebral, transgressive fiction. But not many people know that he is quite adept at writing magical realism. The mutable water signs will become perversely enthralled with the story of a lullaby who kills anyone who hears it.
Content warning: This story contains death, violence, self-harm, and…um…accidental necrophilia. Practice self-care while reading if you do choose to read it.
The Wicked Lovely Series
Written by Melissa Marr
I will forever be upset that this young adult series did not get the same love and notoriety that Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games got. This urban fantasy begins by introducing us to Aislinn, a young woman who is gifted with the ability to see faeries. From there, the reader is thrust into the intriguing world of faerie courts. The empathetic water sign will enjoy learning about the rich inner lives of the characters. They will also love the fantastical world-building.
The Splintered Series
Written by A.G. Howard
Pisces gets two young adult urban fantasies on their list. Last month, I put Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland on Aquarius’ book list. But I have often believed that the creative Alice who had a penchant for escapism had to have been a Pisces. Piscean lovers of the classic tale will love this modern dark tale. The author may not be a Pisces, but as a Gemini, she is a fellow mutable sign, which could explain why she was able to add even more creativity to an already fantastical story.
Big Fish
Written by Daniel Wallace
The book with a fish in its title gets paired with a zodiac sign that is represented by the fish. That’s all the explanation we need. Moving on!
…Just kidding! My editor would not let me get away with that explanation. The title is not the only reason for this pairing. This book tells the story of a young man trying to reconcile with his dying father whom he believes only ever told lies. The creative escapist Pisces will appreciate the subtle truths that hid inside the father’s tall tales.
Fierce Fairy Tales
Written By Nikita Gill
This list started with poetry and it’s going to end with poetry. Nostalgic Pisces will love this collection of poetry by the incomparable Nikita Gill. Fierce Fairy Tales takes myths and legends from several different cultures and reexamines them through a progressive lens. The intuitive water sign will enjoy sitting by a lake with a cocktail in one hand and this book in the other.
