Rihanna has brought back one of her edgiest hairstyles, and it really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.

Yes, the 32-year-old is again rocking a choppy mullet — a haircut that has been seeing a resurgence this year.

Mullets have certainly seen their fair share of jokes over the years, but the “business in the front, party in the back” cut always manages to come back around. This year alone, we’ve seen some fashion-forward celebs starting to embrace the mullet again, thanks to its eye-catching shape and overall laid-back vibe.

Rihanna’s Rockin’ a Mullet

Now, Rihanna’s rockin’ the cut again. She stepped out for dinner at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica earlier this week, and her ‘do took us all back to New York Fashion Week in 2013 when she first debuted the hairstyle.

This time around, she ditched the baby blue dress for a vintage Pantera marijuana leaf t-shirt, green and white flares, and strappy white corset pumps from her own Fenty label.

While this is the first time we’ve seen RiRi’s new haircut in the wild, she also donned the ‘do in a teaser video for her Savage x Fenty lingerie show that aired on Amazon Prime Video back in October. In the clip, Rihanna is shown from behind before looking over her shoulder and smiling at the camera, putting her choppy mullet on full display.

RiRi isn’t the only celeb rockin’ a mullet these days.

Miley’s Year-Long Mullet

Miley Cyrus has also been sporting the cut throughout 2020, after she debuted the look in a series of photos posted on Instagram in January.

Of course, Miley’s dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, had a mullet (the mullet, if you will) back in the ‘90s. And while he wasn’t the first one to popularize the hairdo, he definitely took it to new heights — er, well, lengths. Miley’s cut isn’t a full-blown quintessential “Achy-Breaky” mullet, but it’s clear that the style runs in the family.

Miley’s cut is a more modern take on the style. It features bangs in the front and longer, textured tresses in the back.

In May, the singer snipped off even more for what she says is a “pixie mullet.” Essentially, it’s a shorter mullet, from what I can tell.

She actually recruited mom Tish Cyrus to do the cut, since the coronavirus pandemic was preventing her from visiting hairstylist Sally Hershberger. Sally was responsible for Miley’s mullet cut back in January.

To help out Tish, the stylist actually guided her via video chat. Even still, the haircut came out a little differently than the inspiration photo Miley had sent.

In any case, the “pixie mullet” cut ain’t too bad, if you ask me.

I was never much of a fan of the mullets from days gone by (sorry Billy Ray Cyrus!). But these modern takes on mullets from celebs like RiRi and Miley might be changing my mind on mullets. They seem edgier and infinitely cooler, though I can’t quite put my finger on why. However, I’m willing to bet we’ll start to see a lot more mullets like these as people catch on.
