Whether you’re looking for organization tips or your room just needs a refresher, here are simple ways to get your bedroom under control once and for all.

Though I try to keep my bedroom organized and clean, I often end up with clothes scattered across the floor and knick-knacks covering every inch of my dresser. Hey, it happens.

It can be very hard to keep your bedroom organized, especially when you have so many other rooms in a home to take care of. Why didn’t anyone tell us when we were growing up that it’s hard to take care of an entire home? Now that I think about it, maybe my mom did tell me…

Anyway, I digress.

While organizing can be a pain — and a time suck — there really is nothing better than having a clean and orderly bedroom. Whether you’re looking for organization tips or your room just needs a refresher, here are simple ways to get your bedroom under control once and for all.

Get in That Closet

If you’re anything like me, your closet is where items go to never be found again. I’d throw whatever I didn’t want to deal with inside my closet and hope a magical fairy would take care of it eventually. (OK not really, but you get what I’m trying to say).

Now’s the time to get inside your closet and deal with the mess you’ve created. Block off an afternoon and get it done. Go through your clothes and create a pile of anything you want to give away. Make sure your items are where they’re supposed to be (and not in a pile on the floor).

Create areas for your shoes, accessories, and anything else you want to keep in your closet.

Oh, and don’t forget to put hooks on the back of the closet doors. Now you’ll have no excuse for keeping bags, scarves, or belts on the floor of your closet anymore.

Storage, Storage, Storage

By the end of the month, every inch of my dresser is covered in something. Whether it’s jewelry, makeup, scrunchies, cans of sparkling water (not proud of it), lotions, or nail polish, everything just accumulates on my little piece of furniture and it drives me crazy.

So, if you have the same problem, it’s time to invest in more storage. Go to Target, grab one of those plastic three-drawer containers, and find a place for it in your room. In fact, if you have space in your closet, put it in there!

Use it to keep whatever ends up finding its way onto your dresser. This will keep your dresser looking spotless, but it will also give you one centralized place for all your stuff.

Another simple hack is to keep items stored under your bed. Do you have anything in your bedroom that you don’t want to get rid of but also don’t want to see every day? Put it under your bed. Grab a few clear bins and put whatever you want inside them.

Make Your Bed

OK, this may seem obvious, but trust me it makes a difference. If you feel like your room ends up looking like a pigsty after a few days and you don’t make your bed every day, it’s time to start. I used to never make my bed and I always wound up with a messy room.

I started to realize there was probably a correlation between having an unmade bed and having a messy room. It was as if I was subconsciously allowing myself to have a messy room because my bed was already disheveled.

Within the past month, I’ve started making my bed every day, and let me tell you, it’s made a huge difference in my bedroom organization. I no longer want to leave clothes on the floor or put things out of place because my bed looks so perfect whenever I walk in.

These are simple steps, some may say obvious, but they really will make your space look so much better. Organizing doesn’t have to be complicated, so just take it one step at a time. You can do it!
