If you’re anything like me, your wanderlust is at an all-time high right now. Because of COVID-19, many of us haven’t traveled to fun or exotic locations, let alone left our homes, in months.

If you’re anything like me, your wanderlust is at an all-time high right now. Because of COVID-19, many of us haven’t traveled to fun or exotic locations, let alone left our homes, in months.

The truth of the matter is life won’t go back to normal for the majority of us until there is a vaccine, so instead of spending your days dreaming of lying on the beach, why not bring a vacation to you!

Sure, a staycation in your hometown isn’t as glamorous as a week in Maui or a trip to Paris, but it is better than sitting on your couch in your pajamas eating Doritos for the fifth time this week (speaking from personal experience).

If your desperate for a little vacay but want to stay safe — and save money — here are some fun ideas.

Get Food From a Special Restaurant

Whether you decide to dine-in or you prefer to do carry out, grab a meal from a restaurant you love but don’t often go to because of the cost.

Vacations are all about splurging, so why not do that on your staycation too! Get dressed up (if you want to), enjoy that delicious meal, and don’t worry about the check.

Do an At-Home Spa Day

Order some of your favorite beauty products and create a relaxing spa environment right in your own bathroom. Spend time in the bath, do a face mask, give yourself a manicure and pedicure, and just enjoy the quiet.

Sleep In

Another vacation luxury is being able to sleep in. Many of us are so busy in our day-to-day lives, we often don’t have the time to sleep past our alarm clocks, but let yourself off the hook for the day.

If you have children, see if they can sleepover at a family member or friend’s home (if you feel comfortable with that).

Or, if you’re married or have a significant other, ask them to watch the kids in the morning while you get some shut-eye. Don’t feel guilty about this, you deserve a break too!

Enjoy a Breakfast Buffet

Hotel breakfast is one of my favorite things about vacation, so why not bring that experience to your home.

Grab some of your favorite breakfast foods (donuts, eggs, bacon, fruit, cereal, pancakes, etc) and layout a delicious spread for yourself. And you know what? Go ahead and have a mimosa or two while you’re at it.

Don’t Check Your Emails

Vacation also allows us to detach from our phones and step away from our work responsibilities, so do just that during your staycation.

Try to go an entire day without checking your email, responding to work calls, or obsessing over your company’s Slack channel. Take a moment to decompress, you’ll thank yourself later!

Treat Yourself

If there’s a store in your area that you love, go there and buy yourself something nice. If you’ve been wanting a new purse for a while, go out and get it.

We treat ourselves all the time while on vacation but many of us rarely treat ourselves while we’re home. Now, we’re not saying to go crazy with the shopping, but allow yourself to buy something you’ve always wanted.
