Tarot Tuesday: The Ten of Wands

The Ten of Wands is a card of destinations and end results. In tarot, the number ten represents a completion of our goals and endeavors. What does it have in store for you this week?

Welcome to Tarot Tuesday!

Each Tuesday I pull a card from my grandmother’s tarot deck and write about what the card could mean for the signs, broken up by element. The elements of the zodiac are Fire (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius), and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces).

I may pull a card from the major arcana, representing our inner wisdom. Or I may pull a suit card, representing outside influences. I may even pull a court card signifying a specific person in your life. This card can help you set your intention for the rest of the week or it can provide a visualization of your current situation. Don’t forget to check your moon and rising signs as well as your sun sign.

This week I pulled the Ten of Wands. This is the card of destinations and end results. In tarot, the number ten represents a completion of our goals and endeavors. It can also represent getting rid of what is no longer needed and moving on to the next step.

Wands are the suit of creativity and independence. A wand card represents a need to pursue your own artistic desires and joy. It could also represent travel, success, and a gathering of friends. When a wand card pops up in a reading, it symbolizes personal achievement.

In my grandmother’s deck, the card is depicted as a masculine figure wearing a red and orange tunic and green leggings. He carries a bundle of ten wands towards a place that could be his village or estate.

Though the card’s image may vary from deck to deck, the meaning is often the same. This card symbolizes future success in our creative projects. It also represents the need to rid ourselves of things that hold us back from realizing our full potential. It can also denote friendly support, good health, and travel.

What This Card Means for Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)

Fire signs are ruled by their passion and drive. This card may hold more significance for you because the Wands are the suit of fire. The Ten of Wands speaks to your need for creative success.

Aries, an obligation is holding you back from realizing your full creative potential. The project that you are currently working on can bring you emotional and financial well-being if you do not let other people’s expectations of you weigh you down.

Leo, you have taken a long and much-needed rest. This rest has left you feeling reinvigorated and excited to continue your artistic endeavors. You feel as though your spark has been reignited.

Sagittarius, you have been dealing with a creative block. A weekend getaway can endow you with some much-needed inspiration. Plan a short trip and leave your troubles behind for a while.

What This Card Means for Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)

Earth signs are ruled by their dedication and desire. The Ten of Wands speaks to your need for financial and emotional support.

Taurus, you have been providing emotional support — possibly even financial support — to your loved ones for a while now. You desperately need the same support from others but you are apprehensive to ask. Don’t be afraid to tell your loved ones exactly what you need from them.

Virgo, like Taurus you have been providing a lot of support to your loved ones. Unlike Taurus, you are convinced that you do not require any help. Everyone needs help sometimes. Don’t let your pride stop you from accepting the help that is offered by your friends and family.

Capricorn, you have been spearheading a project and now you have reached a dead-end. You have been an exceptional leader but now it may be time to ask for assistance. Asking for help will not undermine your leadership.

What This Card Means for Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)

Air signs are ruled by their compassion and independence. The Ten of Wands speaks to your need to rid yourself of distractions.

Gemini, a literary project has reinvigorated your passion for the written and spoken word. However, this project may prove to be quite intimidating and you have gotten into the habit of distracting yourself so as to remain undaunted. Stay on course. This project will bring you happiness.

Libra, like Gemini, you find yourself intimidated by a project at hand. You too are distracting yourself by meddling in the affairs of those around you. Do not let others distract you from the task at hand. Focus on yourself.

Aquarius, your mind is tumbling with a myriad of clever and wonderful ideas. Now is the time to determine which of these ideas will serve you and your community, and which of these ideas are distracting you from your true purpose.

What This Card Means for Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces)

Water signs are ruled by their empathy and imagination. The Ten of Wands speaks to your desire for mental, physical, and emotional health for you and/or a loved one.

Cancer, as a cardinal sign you have believed that your own determination is enough to get you through your dark times. This is admirable. But the time has come to enlist the help of others. It may be time to talk to a professional.

Scorpio, you may have been isolating yourself for a bit in the name of self-care. However, a small get-together may be quite beneficial to your emotional health as well as the emotional health of your loved ones.

Pisces, you have been taking great strides to care for physical and mental health, and you should be very proud of yourself. Remember to focus on your own well-being before helping others. You cannot pour from an empty cup.
