Tarot Tuesday: The Sun

Read on to find out what The Sun has in store for you!

Welcome to Tarot Tuesday!

Each Tuesday I will be pulling a card from my grandmother’s tarot deck and writing about what the card could mean for the signs, broken up by element. The elements of the zodiac are Fire (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius), and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces).

I may pull a card from the major arcana, representing our inner wisdom. Or I may pull a suit card, representing outside influences. I may even pull a court card signifying a specific person in your life. This card can help you set your intention for the rest of the week or it can provide a visualization of your current situation. Don’t forget to check your moon and rising signs as well as your sun sign. You can check your birth chart placements here.

Though it may be best to just check your sun sign because the tarot card for this week is…

The Sun

This week I pulled The Sun. This is the card of achievement. This card belongs to the Major Arcana and it is believed that Major cards hold deeper and more specific meanings. It may be appropriate that I pulled the Sun card in the middle of winter, the darkest time of year.

This card is often depicted as a young child riding a white horse. The child wears no clothes but has a feather and a crown of flowers on their head. They hold a large red flag in their hand. Behind them, there is a row of sunflowers and a giant yellow sun with a face.

Though the card’s image may vary from deck to deck, the meaning is often the same. This card represents persevering through the many obstacles of life. The flag in the young child’s hand depicted in the card is no ordinary flag. It is a banner of victory. When this card is drawn it can mean that you have the ability to triumph over your hardships. It can also mean that you need to take pride in the things you have already accomplished. This card reminds us that it is okay to revel in your success.

This card represents untapped possibilities. The sunflowers depicted in the card remind us that the sun gives life-sustaining nutrients to little plants so that they have the potential to grow into something strong and beautiful. This card speaks to those who need to be reminded of their own potential.

Fire signs are ruled by their passion and drive. The Sun card speaks to your need to reach your potential through creativity and adventure.

Aries, if you are feeling trapped or stagnated, this card wants you to seek your fortune somewhere new. A change of scenery may be just what you need.

Leo, your sign is particularly connected to this card, so it may hold more significance for you. This card wants to achieve success using your creative sensibilities and artistic abilities.

Sagittarius, like with Aries, it may be time to travel to a place where you have never been and see if you can grow there. There may be new lessons to learn in a new location.

Earth signs are ruled by their dedication and desire. The Sun card speaks to your need to nourish your mental and emotional health just as the sun nourishes all life.

Taurus, instead of focusing on what you could’ve done, this card wants you to revel in all of the great things that you have accomplished.

Virgo, this card wants you to surround yourself with loved ones. Your close relationships can do wonders for your personal growth.

Capricorn, you have come a long way in your mental health journey. This card wants you to celebrate all of your mental health accomplishments no matter how small they may seem.

Aquarius, if you are in a position of power and influence, this card wants you to use this influence to brighten someone’s day.

Gemini, this card wants you to reflect on all of the friendships you have made and all of the lives you have touched.

Libra, if you are feeling a little low, this card wants to remind you that you may have lifted a person’s spirits today just by talking to them.

What This Card Means For Water Signs (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio)

Water signs are ruled by their empathy and imagination. The Sun card speaks to your need for self-confidence and pride in your success.

Pisces, this card reminds you that you have accomplished a lot in your professional life. Don’t be surprised if other people start to take notice.

Cancer, if you have been working on a special project that you are particularly proud of, this card wants you to show off your accomplishments.

Scorpio, if you have been concerned with finances lately, this card wants you to know that your frugality will help you in the long run.

Tune in next week for another tarot pull! In the meantime, let’s honor the sun card with the early 2000’s classic from Sheryl Crow.
