Tarot Tuesday: The Queen of Swords

What does the Queen of Swords have in store for us? Read on to find out!

Welcome to Tarot Tuesday!

Each Tuesday I pull a card from my grandmother’s tarot deck and write about what the card could mean for each sign, grouped by element. The elements of the zodiac are Fire (Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius), and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces).

I may pull a card from the major arcana, representing our inner wisdom. Or I may pull a suit card, representing outside influences. I may even pull a court card signifying a specific person in your life. This card can help you set your intention for the rest of the week or it can provide a visualization of your current situation. Don’t forget to check your moon and rising signs as well as your sun sign.

Queen of Swords

This week I pulled a court card, the Queen of Swords. A Queen card can represent a feminine person (often a matriarchal figure and/or authority figure) who must balance home life and work life.

Swords are the suit of communication. But the suit can also represent logic, focus, and fearfulness. When a sword card pops up in a reading it can represent courage or a disruption of an unfair status quo. It can also represent fears that are holding us back.

In my grandmother’s deck, the card is depicted as a feminine figure in profile surrounded by clouds and wearing a gray and blue gown with gold trim. She has red hair or a red veil and wears a golden butterfly crown. She holds a sword and sits on a silver throne decorated with cherubs and butterflies.

Though the card’s image may vary from deck to deck, the meaning is often the same. It can represent feminine strength and intensity. It can also represent a feminine person who uses their wits and emotional fortitude to overcome any obstacle that is their way. Though this person can be a true-blue friend to their loved ones, they can also be a bit cold and indignant. This card may pop up when it is time to use what you have learned to fight injustice. It can also symbolize resentment of other people’s happiness or it can serve as a warning against resentful people.

What This Card Means for Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius)

Fire signs are ruled by their passion and drive. The Queen of Swords speaks to your need to overcome any obstacle in your path.

Aries, you are struggling to move on from a recent emotional devastation. This pain may make it difficult for you to achieve certain things. This card wants you to summon whatever strength you have to accomplish what needs to be done.

Leo, you are slowly getting back into the swing of things. The self-care that you have been giving yourself has helped you build your strength back up. Don’t try to accomplish every goal all at once. Take it a day at a time.

Sagittarius, resentful people are going to try to pull you down to their level. Do not let them bait you. Be proud of your achievements and keep moving forward. Put your hater blockers on!

What This Card Means for Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn)

Earth signs are ruled by their dedication and desire. The Queen of Swords speaks to your determination to succeed and your need to care for others.

Taurus, you are exuding a lot of mom energy right now. You are holding your own emotions together so that you can be there for your loved ones. This is admirable, but don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need your own mom friend to step in.

Virgo, you have been dealt an emotional blow and you are keeping yourself busy to distract yourself. Like Taurus, you have been taking care of others for a long time. It is time to let your loved ones take care of you.

Capricorn, you feel like your success is heavily influenced by other people and that may make you a tad bit critical of those around you. Focus on you and your own choices. Don’t worry about what other people are doing.

What This Card Means for Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius)

Air signs are ruled by their compassion and independence. This card may hold more significance for you because the Swords are the suit of air. The Queen of Swords speaks to your need for justice.

Gemini, you want to help others but you are unsure of where to start. As the most studious sign, I encourage you to do research and study up on the particular needs of those you are trying to help.

Libra, you are not really in the mood to fight for justice at this time. You would rather provide peace to those who are fighting or have been beaten down. Your peaceful energy is helping those around you more than you could ever know.

Aquarius, you are dedicated to fighting against abuses and inequity. However, you may become so preoccupied with fighting for justice that you emotionally neglect or talk over those who are in need. Don’t forget to listen to the ones you are fighting for.

What This Card Means for Water Signs (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio)

Water signs are ruled by their empathy and imagination. The Queen of Swords speaks to your need for emotional fortitude.

Cancer, lately you have been finding it difficult to keep your cynicism and resentment at bay. It can be especially hard when some of your darker emotions are warranted. You are allowed to feel any emotion that you need to, but be careful that you do not take your feelings out on others.

Scorpio, you have always prided yourself on your emotional strength. But now it may be time to let yourself cry and feel every emotion that you have been holding back. Don’t be afraid to ask for support from a loved one.

Pisces, your empathetic nature knows no bounds. However, your empathy may attract people who would take advantage of you. Use your discernment. Remember that not everyone deserves your grace or help.
